Microchip Releases Qi v2.0 Standards-Compliant Wireless Dual-Pad Reference Design

As major charger manufacturers, including those in the automotive industry, are working to implement Qi v2.0 (Qi2) standards, Microchip Technology has released a Qi2 dual-pad wireless power transmitter reference design. The new wireless dual-pad charging design - using fully-automotive qualified Microchip components - supports both Qi2's Extended Power Profile and Magnetic Power Profile with a single controller.

STMicroelectronics is simplifying development of Qi-compliant wireless chargers up to 15W by introducing transmitter and receiver evaluation boards based on the company’s STWLC38 and STWBC86 ICs. Responding to the fast growing demand for products supporting the Qi wireless standards, these new development solutions will allow developers to quickly build and test wireless-charger prototypes. Both are used with the STSW-WPSTUDIO graphical software environment to assist development.

In response to growing consumer demand for improved wireless charging, the Wireless Power Consortium announced the release of the new Qi2 standard to redefine inductive wireless power transfer. Reflecting the enthusiastic industry response, Infineon Technologies is addressing the demand by introducing its first Qi2 Magnetic Power Profile (MPP) charging transmitter solution and reference design kit REF_WLC_TX15W_M1.

Texas Instruments (TI) introduced the industry’s first Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) v1.2 Qi-certified 15-W wireless power transmitter. The bq501210 enables 84 percent system efficiency with significantly less thermal dissipation than traditional wireless power devices. The transmitter supports multiple fast-charging protocols and offers an array of flexible and customizable features such as personal electronics, medical and space-constrained industrial applications.
