USound Improves Performance of MEMS Speaker-Based Audio Systems with New Active Linearization Algorithm (ALA)

USound announced the availability of Active Linearization Algorithm (ALA), a new signal processing tool that helps reduce the total harmonic distortion (THD) of MEMS speakers. According to the Austrian company, the new software tool sets new standards in the development of over-the-counter (OTC) hearing aids and true wireless stereo (TWS) headphones and was developed to assist audio systems developers in their efforts to improve the THD performance of MEMS-based products.

USound, the Austrian pioneer of MEMS speakers, announced the release of an audio module designed to enhance the performance of true wireless earbuds and hearing aids, enabling new degrees of design freedom. As USound underscores, with this new integrated solution, manufacturers can create more ergonomic and comfortable designs, with extended battery life and audio quality, while the form factor of hearing aids and TWS earbuds can be considerably reduced.

USound announced its entrance into the health technology industry with the introduction of MEMS speakers that are fully compliant for MRI-compatible headphones and accessories. The Austrian developer of micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) loudspeakers and drivers, announced a collaboration with NordicNeuroLab to develop headphones fitted with USound MEMS drivers, which are suitable to protect patients from loud noises and relax them while inside Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machines, due to its non-magnetic properties.

Austrian microspeaker company USound has just received an additional equity tranche increasing the last financing round to $30 million. According to the company, these added funds will accelerate the evolution of the next MEMS microspeaker generation, with the potential to boost the battery life of wireless earbuds and other wearable devices up to 12 hours. USound hopes to enable a market transition from electrodynamic drivers to solid-state technology with the next-generation of its Ganymede piezoelectric MEMS.

STMicroelectronics and Austrian company USound GmbH announced their collaboration on the industrialization and production of the world's first miniature piezoelectric MEMS (Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems) actuators for smart audio systems in portable devices. The patented micro-speaker technology from USound aims to replace commonly used balanced-armature and electrodynamic receivers for handsets with a small piezo-MEMS actuator.
