ON Semiconductor Announces Innovative New USB-C Power Delivery 3.0 Controllers

ON Semiconductor announced a pair of novel devices that are fully compliant with the USB-C Power Delivery (PD) 3.0 standard. New USB-C PD 3.0 Devices provide an advanced solution for power adapter and battery charger applications. The FAN6390 adaptive charging controller brings ease of integration of the USB-C PD 3.0 programmable power supply (PPS) standard into systems, while the NCP12601 is a highly integrated multi-mode flyback controller for rugged, high-performance, offline power supplies such as adapters.

Cypress Semiconductor announced the newest member of its USB-C Power Delivery family, the EZ-PD Power Adapter Generation 1 (PAG1) solution. The PAG1 is a complete AC-DC power solution with an integrated USB Power Delivery (PD) controller that enables OEMs to build reliable, efficient, and cost-effective power adapters for the growing USB-C charger market. The programmable EZ-PD PAG1 family delivers increased efficiency and reliability for USB-C charging applications.

Maxim Integrated Products has announced the MAX77860 3A switch-mode charger. This USB-C buck charger provides the industry’s first integrated USB-C port controller and charger to eliminate the need for a separate host controller, according to Maxim. This simplifies software development and reduce overall bill-of-materials (BOM) costs for multiple applications, from power banks to medical devices, charging cradles and portable Li-ion battery-powered electronics in general.

Silicon Mitus released the SM5428, a Switched Capacitor Battery Charger. The new DC-DC converter from the company has been highly optimized to meet the demands of the emerging fast charging applications in the USB Type-C market, offering a higher efficiency that allows for a reduced time to charge the battery and better management of the thermal dissipation during the recharging cycle of the device. A solution tailored specifically for smartphones, tablets and any other battery powered consumer devices.
