Qualcomm Announces Snapdragon Sound S5 and S3 Gen 2 Chipsets for Bluetooth LE Audio Products

During its Snapdragon Summit 2022, Qualcomm unveiled the latest generation of Snapdragon processors and chips that will power mobile devices, wearables and countless consumer electronics and audio devices to be introduced in 2023. The Snapdragon S5 Gen 2, and the Snapdragon S3 Gen 2 Bluetooth audio chipsets are the evolution from the devices announced in 2022, designed to support Bluetooth LE Audio.

In early March 2021, following a series of announcements in development platforms and solutions for wireless audio, Qualcomm announced Qualcomm Snapdragon Sound, a new end-to-end approach to promote high-resolution digital audio and enhanced voice communications across devices. The systems' approach combines and optimizes multiple Qualcomm technologies for mobile platforms, processing, connectivity, plus the latest aptX Adaptive audio technologies needed to improve the sound experience for consumers. But how can manufacturers and new brands benefit? Will there be a lossless extension for aptX Adaptive? We asked the questions to Jonny McClintock, Director of aptX Sales & Marketing at Qualcomm.

Qualcomm Technologies International, a subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated, showcased at MWC 2019 in Barcelona the most recent wireless earbuds and hearables using the latest Qualcomm QCC5100 and QCC302x series, ultra-low power Bluetooth audio SoCs. Now available in more than 10 products, Qualcomm is finding increased traction from audio, mobile and consumer electronics manufacturers for these SoCs, allowing for a robust, low-latency and high-quality wireless audio experiences, in compact, feature-rich wireless earbuds, headsets and speakers.

Qualcomm announced the QCC3026, a flash-programmable Bluetooth Audio System-on-Chip (SoC) that is designed to reduce power consumption by up to 50% compared to previous generation entry-level flash devices. The new SoC is also engineered to help manufacturers simply and quickly develop and commercialize feature optimized truly wireless headsets, and extends the Company’s portfolio of low power Bluetooth audio solutions following the announcement of the flagship QCC5100 Bluetooth SoC series earlier this year.

Qualcomm was an early pioneer in the concept of true wireless stereo a technology that is designed to completely eliminate the need for wires, not only between the media source and the headphones, but also between the left and right earbuds, offering users a wire-free stereo audio experience and supporting new use cases like hearables. Now Qualcomm announced enhancements to its Qualcomm TrueWireless Stereo technology.
