STMicroelectronics is simplifying development of Qi-compliant wireless chargers up to 15W by introducing transmitter and receiver evaluation boards based on the company’s STWLC38 and STWBC86 ICs. Responding to the fast growing demand for products supporting the Qi wireless standards, these new development solutions will allow developers to quickly build and test wireless-charger prototypes. Both are used with the STSW-WPSTUDIO graphical software environment to assist development.

In order to ensure high quality wireless charging power transmitters, the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) has released the Qi 1.3 Wireless Charging specification with the extended power profile. This new specification created demand for high security silicon authentication devices for full-service support. In response, Microchip Technology announced the new industrial grade TrustFLEX ECC608 and the automotive grade Trust Anchor TA100 combined with Microchip secure key provisioning services for Qi 1.3 power transmitters.

STMicroelectronics has introduced STWLC88, the world’s fastest Qi wireless charging integrated circuit. Delivering as much as 50W of power, the new device enables consumers to charge smartphones, tablets, laptops, and other personal electronic devices without cables as safely and nearly as quickly and efficiently as they could by plugging them in. ST says its state-of-the-art 50W wireless-power IC charges smartphones two times faster than the previous-generation device.

NXP Semiconductors announced that the first multi-device vehicle wireless charging solution driven by a single MWCT controller is now available in production vehicles. The solution charges two mobile devices simultaneously at up to 2x15 Watts using a single MWCT controller and supports all Qi wireless charging enabled phones including latest iPhone models, and products from Samsung, Huawei and others. Optional NFC is available for convenience features such as BLE/Wi-Fi pairing, smart car access with NFC, in-car purchases and NFC card damage protection.
