Qualcomm Announces New Ultra-Efficient NB2 IoT Chipset for Connected Applications

According to data from the GSMA, the world will see 3.2 billion cellular Internet-of-Things (IoT) connections in 2024. That is, billions of connected devices of all types in homes, companies, and cities. Qualcomm Technologies is already a leading supplier of wireless connectivity chipsets and they now announced a breakthrough new product to drive the growth of cellular IoT: the Qualcomm 212 LTE IoT Modem, introduced as the world’s most power-efficient single-mode NB2 (NB-IoT) chipset.

Altair Semiconductor, a leading provider of cellular connectivity chipsets, and high performance antenna system solutions specialist firm, Ethertronics (a subsidiary of AVX), announced a new small antenna technology, demonstrated within a new cellular IoT wearable concept at Mobile World Congress Americas 2018. The new technology is implemented on Altair's ALT1250 and utilizing Ethertronics' antenna design expertise and paves the way for ultra-compact, connected wearable devices.

At a one day industry summit focused on the Amazon Alexa Voice Service (AVS), Libre Wireless Technologies, announced “MAVID,” an entirely new embedded voice enabled multiprotocol wireless connectivity and IoT platform. This ultra low power and incredibly small new device incorporates a complete hardware and software solution for embedded voice, IoT, audio and wireless connectivity. The new Libre platform will enable OEMs and ODMs to build unique voice-enabled products.

At the Mobile World Congress 2016 in Barcelona, Rohde & Schwarz introduced new RF and audio multistandard test solutions for manufacturers of Bluetooth headsets and audio car kits, and added the enhanced VoLTE voice service codec to its R&S CMW500. The R&S CMW500 is the only test platform on the market to offer a one-instrument solution for testing all cellular and non-cellular standards and Bluetooth.
