PMC Launches result6 Compact Nearfield Monitor at AES 2017

There is now a new PCM compact nearfield reference monitor, affordable to a whole new range of studios (under $3000 USD retail for a pair), and it sounds completely coherent with any other PMC monitor, including the popular MB3S-XBD-A and BB6 monitors, or even the flagship QB1-XBD-A. To open this completely new segment for the famous brand, the result6 demanded an extensive development effort, that included designing custom-made drivers and a new HF diffraction system.

Genelec announced the 1032C two-way nearfield monitor, now upgraded with the cutting edge features and flexibility of Smart Active Monitoring (SAM) advanced monitor auto-calibration and networking software, plus significant across-the-board improvements including a digital input, higher SPL and increased low frequency extension. The 1032C monitor uses the same drivers, acoustic design and soffit-mountable classic styling, simply upgraded for the most demanding modern studios.

M-Audio, now part of inMusic brands, announced two new compact nearfield active studio monitors, which represent an effort to improve on the previous generation while maintaining very affordable prices. The new BX5 D3 and BX8 D3 are not exactly "reference" monitors and much less "high-quality" but, as the previous D2 generation already has proven, allow very decent results for musicians and home studios, in a very competitive market segment.

I recently purchased a pair of MTX Audio Monitor 5i 5.25″ bookshelf speakers because I needed small monitors for a new computer. I do some audio restoration, so I wanted good sound quality when I wasn’t using headphones. My tests determined that the reviewers were right about the MTX 5i’s weakness in the midrange frequencies. Dynaudio’s Professional Audio division attended the Musikmesse 2016 show in Frankfurt as a clear sign to the market about the future evolution of the brand in the pro audio segment. With an attractive and well-designed booth, Dynaudio introduced its new Personal Reference Monitor series – LYD - “a complete redefinition of our own products,” as the company stated.

Ocean Way Audio (OWA) introduced its first two near-field monitors based on its award-winning designs. Unveiled at the AES 139th International Convention in New York, the HR4 and the Pro2A are the first products following the company’s expansion for the creation of new products and technologies, announced in July 2015 by the founder and CEO Allen Sides.

KRK Systems, a division of Gibson Brands, claims to be the #1 brand globally in studio monitors and its affordable ROKIT powered models certainly have contributed for that claim. KRK now introduced two new Generation 3 ROKIT powered studio monitors, all featuring the same cabinet shape: The ROKIT 4, the smallest speaker in the line, and the ROKIT 10-3 Three-Way monitor.
