Practical T&M: Measuring MEMS Microspeakers

MEMS microspeakers are a completely new class of product with its unique challenges. MEMS drivers are now commercially available and seeing fast evolution and adoption in true wireless stereo (TWS) earbuds and in-ear monitors (IEM). With the emergence of these small form-factor transducers comes the need to address how to measure its performance and ensure product quality, even before its integration in finished products.

A new analysis for 2014 titled “The Global and China Micro Electronic-Acoustics Component Industry Report, 2013-2014” was published in October 2014 by Research in China and shows that the earphone and headphone categories have been the main growth areas since the second half of 2013. The 95 pages report provides the most recent data and information on the micro electronic-acoustics industry, detailing profiles of 21 micro electronic-acoustics manufacturers.

K&K Development has released a new analyzer specifically designed for high-speed quality control. The new P750 QC and measurement system connects to a PC by USB and was designed as an economic solution for testing of loudspeakers in a production environment or lab environment. The Danish company says it is the right solution for micro speakers, headphones and handsets testing.
