British brand KEF made a splash announcement, confirming the simultaneous introduction of two new LS50 models, updating the extremely popular speaker design. The range now includes the LS50 Meta, an improved version of the original LS50 passive design, now featuring a new Uni-Q driver that is coupled with an interesting new Metamaterial absorber in the back. Klippel and Nuvoton Unveil Smart Amplifier Solution with Integrated KCS Speaker Control Algorithm

Klippel announced an exciting cooperation with Nuvoton Technology, a leading provider of consumer-electronics and computer ICs from Taiwan, to release a new type of smart amplifier with integrated Klippel Controlled Sound (KCS) technology that compensates for nonlinear speaker responses. As a result of the project, Nuvoton developed the highly efficient mono Class D audio amplifier devices, NAU83G10 and NAU83G20. Both devices are now available.

Speakerbench is a web-based application created by Jeff Candy (San Diego, CA) and Claus Futtrup (SEAS, Norway), combining several special-purpose modules aimed at low-frequency analysis and design of loudspeakers. According to the authors, the online tool is made available to whoever might find it useful, including the loudspeaker DIY community. The authors encourage user feedback and even invite software developers to implement the techniques.

The new release of LoudSoft's FINECone 2020 software is a welcome and important update for the loudspeaker industry. LoudSoft seems to have listened to its customers and added a new Geometry Modeler, which makes simulating cone frequency response much easier for engineers using FINECone. FINECone is an acoustic Finite Element dome/cone simulation application to assist on the design of new drivers, calculating frequency responses and detecting problems in existing designs.
