xMEMS Designs Thinner Microspeaker Engineered for Smart Watches and Fitness Bands

Following the debut of the original Sycamore microspeaker in late 2024, xMEMS Labs is already working on expanding the technology to even thinner form factors with the Sycamore-W. This new full-range driver is an evolution of the company's Cypress "sound from ultrasound" MEMS platform introduced in 2023, and currently waiting for the results of safety reports on long-term ultrasound exposure for humans. xMEMS is confident in those reports and is doubling down with the even thinner, Sycamore-W.

xMEMS Labs introduced Tomales, a new monolithic, 1mm-thin profile MEMS tweeter µspeaker, available with top and side-firing package options that simplify speaker placement and positioning to direct audio toward the ear in smart glasses and augmented/extended reality headset applications. This new MEMS driver, which uses the company second generation M2 speaker cell architecture, has an IP58 rating for dust/water that simplifies system integration in these designs.

Launched at IBC 2018 in Amsterdam, the new DPA d:screet CORE 6060 and 6061 Subminiature Microphones and the d:fine CORE 6066 Subminiature Headset Microphone are just three millimeters in diameter – two millimeters smaller than DPA’s existing 4000 series of miniature microphone products. All three incorporate the company’s recently launched CORE by DPA microphone technology that reduces distortion and increases dynamic range, and DPA goes as far as calling the new microphones its best ever made.
