Qualcomm State of Sound 2023 Report Shows New Consumer Priorities

Qualcomm just published its 2023 State of Sound report. The focus for this year's survey is on evolving consumer uses of wireless audio devices, from traditional use cases like music listening, voice calls and watching video, to the more complex use of devices in the workplace, for gaming and hearing enhancement. As usage increases, highlights indicate new consumer priorities from their audio devices.

Based on key topics raised during an Iron Mountain Entertainment Services (IMES) and Recording Academy Producers & Engineers Wing (P&E Wing) co-hosted 2021 summit “Protecting Legacies: The Art, Science and Value of Music Archives,” IMES, the P&E Wing and the Audio Engineering Society (AES) developed a survey to assess current practices and challenges in audio archiving. The survey was sent to approximately 4,000 members of the P&E Wing and 11,000 members of the AES.

Engineers want a long lifetime from their test and measurement instruments, according to a global survey of nearly 1,300 professionals, conducted by Tektronix between April and May 2021. The survey also finds engineers want to be able to cope with rapid advancements in technology, and want more technical support from test and measurement vendors.

Apparently Apple got it right. Once again. As smart speaker adoption continues to climb, more than half of existing owners would like to have a smart speaker with better sound quality than their current device, while a similar number would pay more for it. That’s one of the findings from the new “Audio Tech Lifestyles” consumer survey from Futuresource Consulting, conducted in the USA, UK, Germany, Japan and China.

Increasing consumer enthusiasm for the Internet of Things (IoT) and adoption of emerging technology will drive the U.S. consumer technology industry to $292 billion in retail revenues ($228 billion wholesale) in 2017, according to new research from the Consumer Technology Association (CTA) unveiled in advance of CES 2017. Smart home devices, wearables and 4K Ultra HD televisions will help produce 1.5 percent year-over-year (YOY) growth in industry revenues.

As the Custom Electronic Design & Installation Association (CEDIA) opened its annual 2015 CEDIA EXPO at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in Dallas October 14-17 with a new brand image and a new CEO, a new industry survey report confirms three straight years of revenue growth for the home-integration sector, with consumers adopting new higher-end technologies and smart home components.
