Test Bench: The New LM10n Wide Band Midrange Ribbon Transducer from Radian Audio Engineering

This is the eagerly awaited characterization of the new LM10n planar ribbon from Radian Audio, one of the most interesting drivers launched in 2023. Like all of Radian's latest planar transducers this one was designed by 35-year loudspeaker engineering veteran Igor Levitsky, with the LM10n being the latest and larger sized model, described as a wide range 120Hz to 20kHz ribbon planar transducer, which excels as a midrange and can be utilized in both open-back (dipole) and closed-back (monopole) formats.

The company's extended Planar Ribbon range, now offers improved specifications for home audio, home cinema and high end applications. Together with the much improved new-generation Planar Ribbon series, Radian also introduced the largest driver in the family, the wide band LM10n.

This is effectively a smaller version of the LT6 ribbon transducer reviewed in the July 2020 issue of Voice Coil, but offering much more diverse possibilities, as Vance Dickason discovers. The LT6 is a pro sound driver but was designed to be a more hi-fidelity substitute for 1" compression drivers, and that is a direct result of Levitsky extensive experience in designing high-end residential, and cinema sound systems.
