Celestion announced the worldwide availability of the CDV1-1757 compression driver. The CDV1-1757 was designed for optimum vocal clarity across the critical vocal band, which makes this driver especially well suited to applications such as mass notification systems, emergency evacuation systems as well as long-distance call to prayer loudspeakers. It features a next- generation proprietary Sound Castle diaphragm clamping system for improved reliability, while a standard 1.38” (35mm) screw fitting provides maximum compatibility with a range of Celestion and third party horn flares.

Visitors to the NAMM 2019 show new AAC North halls couldn’t help noticing a Celestion booth prominently featuring a big red horn. That second Celestion booth at the show, was used by the British manufacturer to specifically promote its professional audio products and services to OEM’s. That same bespoke Big Red Horn was now displayed with the cutting-edge Axi2050 wideband axiperiodic compression driver at the 2019 Prolight+Sound show in Frankfurt.

Test Bench: Eighteen Sound ND4015BE Beryllium Compression Driver

This Test Bench examines Eighteen Sound's ND4015BE beryllium compression driver, which was mated to an Eighteen Sound XR2064 60° × 40° horn. This compression driver is available in two versions, a 1.5" throat and a 2" throat. This review focuses on the 2" throat model. The ND4015BE has a 4”-diameter edge-wound aluminum voice coil on a nonconducting Nomex former, a 4" pure beryllium diaphragm with a polymer surround. The transducer I examined in this Test Bench came from Italian OEM manufacturer B&C Speakers. The DE680TN-8 compression driver is the latest addition to B&C Speakers’ extensive ferrite and neodymium motor 1.4” exit compression drivers. In terms of features, the titanium diaphragm has been redesigned and incorporates a new bent-edge former along with a new dome and surrounds geometry. For this month's Test Bench, Vance Dickason characterizes the CDX1-1742 from legendary UK Pro Sound OEM manufacturer Celestion. This driver joins the CDX family of ferrite motor compression drivers, and is designed for use with 1” throat horns, featuring a FEA-optimized ferrite magnet motor structure, and a proprietary next-generation “Sound Castle” soft diaphragm clamping assembly that reduces diaphragm mechanical stress and distortion. The compression driver I examined here came from B&C Speakers and is the “little brother” to the titanium diaphragm DE1090TN compression driver featured in the August 2016 issue of Voice Coil magazine. As with the DE1090TN, the DE990TN was coupled with B&C Speakers’ ME90 80° × 60° constant directivity horn. The DE990TN has a 36 mm (1.4”) throat diameter and is driven by a titanium diaphragm with a 86 mm (3.4”) diameter voice coil wound with aluminum wire. Celestion CDX1-1447 Compression Driver with H1-7050 “No Bell” Horn

This Test Bench is about Celestion's CDX1-1447 1” ferrite motor compression driver coupled with Celestion’s H1-7050 ‘No Bell’ 70° × 50° horn. Features for the CDX1-1447 include a one piece polyimide diaphragm and surround, with an exit (throat) diameter of 25.4 mm (1.0”). The horn is a new and rather innovative design.
