Amadeus Holophonix Expands Options for Spatial Audio Productions

Available as an hardware processor and now as a native macOS app, the Holophonix spatial sound processor from French audio equipment manufacturer Amadeus, has been evolving since its original introduction and is now proven in multiple high profile productions. Unveiled originally in 2018 at the Frankfurt Prolight+Sound trade show, and commercially available since January 1, 2019, the Holophonix spatial sound processor received many new features and improvements, according to requests and needs expressed by its users.

This article discusses the plan for the new MPEG-H Audio standard, a real-time 3-D audio encoder system with applications for broadcast and streaming distribution, developed in large part by the Fraunhofer Institute in Germany, and recently finalized and submitted as an ISO/MPEG standard.

On December 2014, the ATSC issued a Call for Proposals for a comprehensive audio system for the next generation ATSC 3.0 digital television standard. Dolby (with Atmos), DTS (with DTS:X) and a consortium comprising Technicolor, Fraunhofer and Qualcomm (jointly promoting MPEG-H Audio) have submitted their audio systems. Now, the ATSC has begun its technical review of the three detailed proposals.
