That is the case with the Dolby Conference Phone, that allows a Dolby Voice conferencing experience in meeting rooms. The Audio Engineering Society is promoting its second International Conference on Audio for Virtual and Augmented Reality. The conference and exhibition will bring together a community of influential research scientists, engineers, VR and AR developers, and content providers to explore topics such as spatial audio capture, binaural, ambisonics, wave field synthesis techniques, 3D Sound field navigation, HRTF modeling, reverb and room acoustics synthesis, 3D audio content production, and sound design for VR/AR. The three-day conference takes place in Redmond, WA.

It means we no longer need to record audio information in 6 (5.1), 8 (7.1), or an insane number of audio channels – 22.2, as Japan is pitching for its 8K production and broadcast standard – to properly convey the spatial information of sound reproduction. And not necessarily only for sophisticated soundtracks in immersive formats. And that's where the industry is heading, leaving our precious "audiophile" discussions about the ideal "production standards" for stereo recording and reproduction of music in the dust.

Sound Devices Announces New AMBEO Spatial Audio Partnership with Sennheiser

Earlier in 2017, Sennheiser confirmed that Sound Devices would be one of the companies participating in its ‘AMBEO for VR’ partnership program. Now Sound Devices confirmed the practical result of the partnership with the launch of its MixPre-6/MixPre-10T portable audio recorders, which will help professionals record and monitor high-quality 360 spatial audio for video. The two companies are showing the first AMBEO-certified portable audio recorders with binaural monitoring at NAB 2018.
