Fraunhofer MPEG-H Audio Decoder Software Now Available on GitHub

To make it easier for all developers to include MPEG-H Audio playback into their applications, the MPEG-H Audio decoder software implementation from Fraunhofer IIS is now available as source code on GitHub. As the research institute explains, the release is intended to facilitate the broad adoption of advanced audio formats with immersive audio and personalization capabilities. The MPEG-H Audio System development team was recently awarded the Joseph von Fraunhofer Prize 2023 for their work.

Emotion Systems, a British company specialized in file-based audio processing and analysis tools, has now addressed the critical challenge of ensuring audio consistency and quality in bulk content ingest. Its new Emotion Verification Engine (EVE) is a new approach, giving users quick and easy to interpret information on the detail of the audio components, something which is largely ignored by today’s automated quality control tools.

Swedish digital audio processing pioneer Dirac and Dolby, the leading provider of immersive entertainment technology and experiences, announced a collaboration to demonstrate a high-quality immersive automotive audio experience. The all-electric NIO ET 7, which will enter the European market in 2022, will be one of the first vehicles to feature Dirac audio optimization algorithms and a Dolby Atmos audio system.

Fraunhofer recently licensed its xHE-AAC implementation to Poikosoft, makers of the EZ CD Audio Converter software that allows users to convert files into many lossless and compressed audio formats. With xHE-AAC encoding and decoding, users of EZ CD Audio Converter 9.3 will gain access to the best-performing general audio codec available today. The Converter also fully supports the xHE-AAC loudness metadata, with which users can adapt content playback to the listening situation and dynamic range available.

DTS, Inc. has announced its highly-anticipated DTS:X tools for digital media content professionals, available worldwide the first week of August on the company’s website and through authorized distribution partners, Jargon Technologies and Scenarist. The software-based tools allow professionals to create and QC DTS:X immersive audio streams for Blu-ray Disc, Ultra HD Blu-ray and streaming media. The DTS:X Encoder Suite includes the DTS:X Encoder and DTS:X MediaPlayer together. The DTS:X MediaPlayer is also available as a stand-alone product.
