Fresh From the Bench: mh acoustics Eigenmike em64, Sixth-Order Ambisonics Microphone and Software Suite

A unique insight into the future of microphone technology, this article reviews the Eigenmike em64, a sixth-order Ambisonics microphone with Dante connectivity, extended with a comprehensive recording and decoding software suite. Updating its previous Eigenmike em32 model, the company introduced a state-of-the-art higher order Ambisonics capture tool to the market. The patented design combines microphone programmable gain preamplifiers, 24-bit A/D conversion and microphone calibration, all integrated.

San Diego-based Voyage Audio launched its Spatial Record app for users of the Voyage Audio Spatial Mic immersive microphone. The app for iOS, macOS and Windows provides a seamless method to record and preview multichannel audio files to devices like iPhones, iPads and laptops. Available now, the Spatial Record app is a simplified solution for multichannel audio and can be downloaded for free from the Apple App Store and the Voyage Audio website.

Coordinated by IRCAM Research Centre in collaboration with Amadeus and VRTUOZ, ‘Continuum’ is a 3-year research project, paving the way to new augmented sonic experiences for the performing arts field. Under this framework, the project intends to create a software solution for modeling room acoustic impulse response at high resolution, a hybrid reverb engine, and active acoustic enhancement systems for performing arts venues, all of which will be available in the Holophonix environment.
