Test Bench: The SW26DBAC76-4 Shallow-Mounting Subwoofer from SB Acoustics

This Test Bench article analyzes the popular SW26DBAC76-4 10" low-profile subwoofer from SB Acoustics, specifically designed (and patented) for applications that require a subwoofer that will fit into very shallow-depth enclosures. The SW26DBAC76-4 has a unique and interesting feature set that starts with an extremely shallow 79.5mm (3.13") cast-aluminum frame. The outside rim of the inverted cone is attached to the outside perimeter of the spider, and moves with the cone assembly. The inside diameter of the spider that would normally be glued to the voice coil assembly is then connected to the motor structure. This is a clever design.

The PTT6.5M08-NFA-01 6.5" Midrange is the fourth woofer from Purifi Audio to be examined in Test Bench. This midrange is pretty much identical to the previously examined PTT6.5X and PTT4.0X woofers, and includes the same constant Sd surround, cone edge stiffening ring, and low magnetic hysteresis motor design. However, the PTT6.5M08-NFA-01 is optimized to have higher efficiency (91dB at 2.83V8/1m) for use with multiple woofer three-way design configurations. Vance Dickason received two of the latest products to come out of the R&D labs of Acustica Beyma, the Spanish pro sound OEM transducer manufacturer, which celebrated 50 years in 2019. This review focuses on the T-25M NFM 1" aluminum/magnesium alloy metal dome tweeter. Specifications detail a 20W AES power handling, recommended crossover frequency of 2.5kHz (with a 12dB/octave high-pass filter), and 88dB at 2.83V/1m sensitivity. Test Bench-Wavecor’s FR4X6WA01 Oval Full-Range Driver

This article characterizes the FR4X6WA01, another very interesting full-range driver from Wavecor. The small oval diaphragm driver is built on a proprietary injection molded polymer four-spoke frame with the cone assembly consisting of a black anodized aluminum cone, with a round black anodized aluminum dust cap. Powering the cone assembly is a dual neodymium motor with a copper cap shorting ring and a milled return cup with black emissive coating.

The intriguing W4-2356 driver from Tang Band Speaker (TB Speaker) is built on a proprietary and patented injection-molded polymer four-spoke frame that allows the voice coil not to be centered in the 4" injection-molded polypropylene cone, but offset by about half inch. The aim for this original off-axis design, is to defeat concentric cone modes, a well-known source of coloration in round voice coil transducers. Test Bench: The MD60N-6 2.5" Dome Midrange from the SB Acoustics Satori Line

This is a Test Bench of one of the most intriguing high-frequency drivers from SB Acoustics' high-end Satori line, the MD60N-6 2.5" dome midrange. This design by Danesian Audio of Denmark, is a soft dome midrange that features a non-resonant coated cloth, and a large neodymium ring magnet with a dynamic dome stabilizer and flow resistor. There is also an injection-molded back-closed transmission line enclosure, filled with Thinsulate damping, mounted directly on the back side, covering its entire surface.
