LG Electronics Opens webOS TV Platform to Other Manufacturers

LG Electronics (LG) announced the availability of its popular webOS TV platform ecosystem to other TV brand partners, offering a superior alternative to Android-based interfaces and proprietary user experiences across different manufacturers. Over twenty TV manufacturers have already committed to the webOS partnership, and the ecosystem will be supported by technology partners such as Realtek, Nuance, Gracenote, CEVA and Universal Electronics, among many others.

This concept was one of LG's highlights at CES 2020 and the whole presentation looked like a bizarre development at the time. The new LG TONE Free true wireless earbuds are the first to combine an audio experience tuned by British hifi company Meridian with a unique hygiene-enhancing UVnano charging case that also kills 99.9 percent of bacteria on the part of the earbud closest to our inner ear (model HBS-FN6). The product is now available online and through LG-authorized retailers at a suggested price of $149.99.

Fraunhofer IIS, one of 72 institutes and research units of Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, Europe’s largest application-oriented research organization, announced the licensing of its MPEG-H Audio patents to LG Electronics, allowing the Korean consumer electronics giant to produce products which feature MPEG-H object-based Audio.
