DTS Offers Audio Transcoding on Microsoft Azure Media Services

During the recent National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) 2016 show in Las Vegas (April 16-21), DTS announced cloud-based transcoding services for DTS audio formats are now available through Microsoft Azure Media Services, supporting new OTT services and television platforms. DTS also showcased its HD Radio technology at NAB 2016, confirming new car installations and more live monitoring solutions for digital radio.

A surprise industry announcement with huge implications for the future of digital radio. DTS announced it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire iBiquity Digital Corporation, the developer and licensor of HD Radio technology for AM/FM audio and data broadcasting, for approximately $172 million.

CSR announced two new automotive infotainment products at TU Automotive Detroit 2015. The new CSRatlas7 platform combines hardware and software to boost simplicity, lower costs, and speed time-to-market. CSR also has entered the car radio tuner front-end market with tuneX, a cost-effective software-defined radio (SDR) solution for the in-vehicle environment.

Silicon Labs introduced a complete portfolio of receivers/audio processors and multi-standard digital radio ICs designed to deliver best-in-class AM/FM and digital radio performance for the global car radio market. The expanded portfolio includes AM/FM radio receivers with integrated audio processing paired with digital radio coprocessors and data receivers.

While consumers increasingly use new music streaming services, they also want AM/FM radio to remain the same. According to a new research by Ipsos Research, over 9 in 10 want the way they operate their car radio to remain unchanged, and would not want it changed into a dashboard app. The research also found that, in the car, CD usage is over three times that of any other digital music service.
