Sun Audio has released Purified 4, an interesting modular loudspeaker concept on a spherical cabinet, allowing a choice between 4” woofers from Purifi Audio and 25mm or 34mm tweeters from BlieSMa. Purposely designed for audio enthusiasts who like to bring their own DSP crossover and power amplifiers into play, the new passive speaker from the Dutch company is an interesting concept that points to new directions in high end home audio.

Years of research conducted by ClarityCap, the audio capacitor manufacturer, and the UK-based Institute of Acoustics at the University of Salford, explored how the resonance from the body of a capacitor in a loudspeaker crossover circuit has an audible impact on sound quality. The article details the extensive testing, measurements, and conclusions, which allowed ClarityCap to perfect its manufacturing process, minimizing resonances in capacitors.
