The 2025 NAB Show took place from April 5-9 (exhibits opened April 6) in Las Vegas, NV. The traditional gathering of content, media, and broadcast production hosted annually by the National Association of Broadcasters was once again a reenergizing showcase for all the professionals working on these always-evolving industries that traditionally have helped uphold the highest standards in quality of audio and image. But NAB 2025 was not business as usual.

Avid has announced an update for its Pro Tools audio production software that introduces ARA 2 support for solutions from iZotope, Synchro Arts and Sound Radix. The update also adds two new included MIDI effect plugins from Mixed In Key, session export for Media Composer, Dolby Atmos enhancements, improved searching and importing of session data, memory locations enhancements, MIDI pitch labels, and more.

Avid Appoints Wellford Dillard as Chief Executive Officer

Avid announced that it has appointed Wellford Dillard as the organization's next Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Wellford succeeds Jeff Rosica, who is staying with the company in an advisory capacity to ensure a smooth and successful transition. The appointment follows the company's acquisition by an affiliate of private equity partner STG, concluded on November 7, 2023. Avid is now operating as a privately-held company, headquartered in Burlington, Massachusetts.

Avid has announced an update for its Pro Tools software that introduces significant new capabilities for both music and audio post-production workflows, including a new integrated Dolby Atmos renderer to streamline immersive mixing. The release also offers enhancements to the recently introduced Pro Tools Sketch window and app, adds important interface improvements, and introduces "Same as Source" bounce support for H.264 video, plus support for Native Instruments S-Series controllers.

STG Completes Acquisition of Avid Technology

As anticipated in the August 2023 announcement, Avid Technology announced the completion of its acquisition by an affiliate of the Symphony Technology Group (STG), a private equity firm based in Menlo Park, CA, in an all-cash transaction valued at approximately $1.4 billion. The acquisition was approved by Avid stockholders on November 2, 2023. With Avid becoming a privately held company, there's a general positive sentiment among management and employees about the future of the company.

Avid Technology Becomes a Privately Held Company Following Acquisition by Investment Firm

Following rumors that Avid was exploring sale options, the news that the company entered a definitive agreement to be acquired by an affiliate of the Symphony Technology Group (STG), a private equity firm based in Menlo Park, CA, was not exactly a surprise. Avid will become a privately held company upon completion of the $1.4 Billion transaction and will exit the NASDAQ. In general, this is great news for stockholders, bound to receive $27.05 per share in cash.

Avid Debuts New Pro Tools MTRX II Audio Interface and Thunderbolt 3 Module

Avid announced its new all-in-one audio interface, Pro Tools MTRX II, and introduced a new Pro Tools MTRX Thunderbolt 3 Module to significantly improve the capabilities and efficiency of Pro Tools systems. For recording and post production facilities, the new interfaces add IO capacity, a larger routing matrix and more immersive monitoring capabilities. The addition of the new Thunderbolt 3 module finally updates Avid's audio interfaces, including the existing MTRX Studio, to the latest technology.
