Fraunhofer IIS, the primary inventor of the MPEG-H 3D Audio standard, and StreamUnlimited, a supplier of software solutions and hardware modules for connected audio products, have announced that MPEG-H 3D Audio Baseline Profile decoders have been integrated into the StreamSDK from StreamUnlimited. The Austrian company is already offering decoder implementations supporting the MPEG-H 3D Audio Baseline Profile and has joined the MPEG-H Audio System trademark program administered by Fraunhofer.
StreamUnlimited's StreamSDK is a flexible, multi-dimensional software solution that is portable to various classes of silicon and enables the application of streaming audio functionality to consumer electronics devices. Adding MPEG-H 3D Audio Baseline Profile decoding capabilities to the StreamSDK will enable fast adoption of this Next Generation Audio codec into consumer devices such as soundbars and smart speakers. The native integration of MPEG-H with Chromecast built into the StreamSDK will bring seamless immersive listening experiences to consumers that want to transition from a mobile listening environment with headphones to their MPEG-H enabled 3D audio soundbars, AV Receivers or smart speakers at home.
Tailored to the needs of next-generation broadcast, streaming, and high-quality immersive music delivery, the MPEG-H 3D Audio Baseline Profile is the ideal answer to industry requirements, providing truly immersive experiences and unmatched advanced Next Generation Audio features including user interactivity and advanced accessibility options. As a subset of the existing MPEG-H 3D Audio Low Complexity Profile, the Baseline Profile enables maximum interoperability with existing devices that have implemented this particular profile while significantly reducing the implementation and testing effort.
"It’s a long tradition at StreamUnlimited to always integrate the latest multimedia codecs in our SDKs and make those available for usage with the leading ecosystems such as Chromecast built-in,” says Markus Rutz, CTO at StreamUnlimited. “The MPEG-H 3D Audio codec is in great demand by our OEM partners and we are looking forward to many immersive and interactive audio consumer products based on our StreamSDK.”
StreamUnlimited has joined the MPEG-H Audio System Trademark Program administered by Fraunhofer as a licensed decoder provider to offer tested components to end product manufacturers. The program signals to consumers that MPEG-H products have been verified to work with each other and support all necessary MPEG-H Audio features.
“We are pleased that StreamUnlimited has joined the MPEG-H trademark program. Having tested decoders available on the StreamSDK will help rapidly bring MPEG-H capabilities to a wide range of consumer products,” adds Robert Bleidt, Division General Manager of Fraunhofer USA DMT, which promotes and supports the products of Fraunhofer IIS in the US.
