Sound recognition and voice search technology specialists, SoundHound Inc., has enhanced its popular music app, SoundHound, to include “the most advanced voice interface of any mobile app, enabling a hands-free experience.” The updated SoundHound music discovery app now enables hands-free search, discovery and play, including ability to add songs to a Spotify playlist, all using the company’s Houndify natural language voice search engine.
Users of SoundHound are now able to open the app, and instead of tapping or swiping, they can interact by using their voices to initiate music searches, play music and videos from YouTube, access deep music knowledge, launch a Pandora station, and even add a song to their Spotify playlist. SoundHound is the only app that allows users to add a song to a Spotify playlist via voice command, plus it features rich artist data, enabling users to gain knowledge about their favorite musicians and albums.
By integrating SoundHound’s own Houndify platform, the SoundHound app leverages proprietary Speech-to-Meaning technology. Following the unveiling of the Houndify platform in December 2015 and the company’s March debut of Hound, the all new voice search and assistant app, SoundHound’s voice capabilities can now be activated in its flagship music experience by opening the app and simply saying, “OK Hound.” This allows the freedom of music search, discovery and consumption through SoundHound on the go, at home, or anywhere that using voice is more convenient than looking down at a device to tap or type (such as, in the car).
“We are creating a future where we speak naturally to connected devices, starting with our mobile phones and the apps we love,” says Katie McMahon, Vice President and General Manager of SoundHound Inc. “By incorporating ‘OK Hound’ within the SoundHound music app, we bring the power and elegance of our speech-to-meaning technology to our music fans who can now search, discover, play music and videos, and even build playlists, by simply speaking.”
Examples of what users can say include:
“OK Hound, what’s this song?”
“OK Hound, please play ‘Hello’ by Adele”
“OK Hound, what’s Justin Timberlake’s latest song?”
“OK Hound, please add ‘One Day Like This’ to my Spotify playlist”
“OK Hound, how old is Paul McCartney?”
“OK Hound, please start a Jack Johnson station on Pandora”
SoundHound is one of the most downloaded music apps, with more than 300 million global users on iOS and Android devices. It includes integration with Spotify, YouTube, Apple Music, Pandora and Deezer. SoundHound has also become a mobile platform for artists to launch content and connect directly with fans at the key first moment of discovery – song identification – or when they are seeking music knowledge.
Along with SoundHound and Hound, other products and partners leveraging the Houndify technology include NVIDIA, which is incorporating it into their DRIVE CX platform in car dashboards, and Samsung, which is including it within the ARTIK Platform to power Internet of Things devices. Many other “Houndified voice interface experiences” are expected to come to market in the near future, says the company.
