Sony Electronics announced that its LSPX-S2 Glass Sound Speaker is now available for the first time in the United States. This unique and elegant portable home speaker produces calming ambient illumination. Its glass cylinder combines with an aluminum base that evokes old gas fixtures, where in fact is the actual speaker part, generating omnidirectional sound, enhanced by the vibrations resonating in the glass structure. An ideal and unique combination for home listening in special moments.
"We've found a way to creatively pair high-end audio with warm luminance," commented Mike Fasulo, president and chief operating officer, Sony Electronics North America. "Particularly relevant as a counterbalance to today's challenging external environment, we see creating technology that entertains and elicits a positive emotional response as increasingly important for our industry."
The Sony LSPX-S2 is able to fill a room with sound, thanks to what Sony calls "Advanced Vertical Drive Technology." The design uses a small 35mm driver on the top, which resonates across the glass tube, while a passive radiator on the base provides the low-end notes. The organic glass body vibrates after being tapped by the actuator under it to spread sound vertically to reproduce 360-degree audio. "The glass tube tweeter has a wider surface compared to conventional speakers, which creates rich sound with minimal loss of volume," Sony explains.
With its subtle design and finish, the LSPX-S2 is also meant to be a lighting fixture. With 32 levels of brightness available, users can find the right illumination for their space and set the perfect mood. They can create a warm and inviting home with the speaker's candlelight mode, where the LED illumination flickers just like a candle to set a relaxing atmosphere, "offering a calming sanctuary away from the worries of the outside world," as Sony suggests.
With a compact body and up to eight hours of battery life, users can place the speaker anywhere in the home – from creating a comforting ambience for a family meal to enjoying a moment of peace during a bath. In case you fear breaking the glass part, Sony explains it uses "organic glass" or acrylic resin which doesn't break so easily.
Offering Bluetooth with AAC and LDAC streaming, users can quickly pair their smartphone to the speaker, which is also NFC One-Touch compatible for even faster and more convenient pairing. Thanks to the "Push & Play" function, just pressing the dedicated button on the speaker activates Spotify Connect for direct streaming. There is also a stereo mini jack audio input to connect analog audio sources.
And obviously the LSPX-S2 also supports multi-room, allowing users to listen to the same or different songs in various rooms through the home – all controlled from a single device and the Sony Music Center. For a large dinner table, not only two Glass Sound speakers can create a better candle effect, but they can also be connected wirelessly to generate separated stereo sound.
The Sony LSPX-S2 Glass Sound Speaker is now selling in the US with a suggested retail price of $449.99 and is available at Amazon and other authorized dealers.
