Promising a Smarter Way to Enjoy Music, Sony's announcements at the IFA 2017 show in Berlin follow the predictable consumer trends, offering access to voice personal assistants and improved wireless smart home features. Sony's new LF-S50G wireless speaker combines high quality sound with the smart features of the Google Assistant built-in. The new Sony LF-S50G is a wireless speaker that can be used smartly in the kitchen with handy clock functionality and is IPX3 splash-proof design with a water repellant surface. With the Google Assistant built-in to the LF-S50G, users can start playing music, turn up the volume, or skip to the next track just by using their voice, starting with "Ok Google". Users can ask the Assistant on LF-S50G wireless speaker for a weather forecast or traffic information, or simply to set a timer for the eggs. The Assistant on LF-S50G was designed to fit at the center of the smart, being able to control a growing number of smart devices that can do almost everything from setting the perfect temperature to turning down the lights. Setting up Google Assistant and third party devices is made easy using the Google Home app and a Wi-Fi connection.

"Now you can get Sony's awesome sound quality and design with the Google Assistant built-in," says Mike Fasulo, President and COO of Sony Electronics. "This functionality is another example of Sony's commitment to customer choice by delivering new and innovative technologies."

With a 360 degree, vertical two-way facing speaker system the LF-S50G wireless speaker can comfortably fill the average room with sound. A full range speaker clearly reproduces vocal and treble notes, a dedicated subwoofer reproduces bass sounds, and the omnidirectional two stage diffuser spreads the sound in all directions so that everyone can feel the natural bass sounds pouring out of a compact speaker while enjoying the same sound quality from anywhere in the room. Two drivers face outwards in the center of the speaker for maximum sound coverage, while a bass reflex duct controls resonance speed and frequency. The LF-S50G wireless speaker also supports smartphone pairing via Bluetooth 4.2 and NFC.

The LF-S50G also supports gesture controls to begin playing music, skipping tracks, or adjusting the volume. Multiple speakers can be connected in multiroom mode, leveraging Google Chromecast built-in and allowing compatibility with other devices, such as Sony's HT-ST5000, HT-NT5, and HT-CT800 sound bars, STRZA810ES, STR-DN1080, and STR-DN860 receivers, and SRS-ZR7 and SRS-ZR5 wireless speakers, sharing the same home network. The LF-S50G Wireless Speaker has an MSRP of $199.99 and will be available in October 2017.
