A pioneer in voice-based health tracking, Sonde Health demonstrated the integration of vocal biomarker health tracking in small-footprint chipsets for hearing aids, earbuds, headphones, and other wearables. The solution, presented at CES 2025, delivers on the promise for voice-based health monitoring technology, benefiting from the convergence of voice artificial intelligence (AI) integrated into consumer earbuds.

With health and wellness technology grabbing attention at CES 2025, a Boston, Massachusetts company proved that accessible health solutions based on consumer wearables could soon become mainstream. Building on its longtime partnership with Qualcomm, and now integrated into Qualcomm's Snapdragon S7+ Gen 1 Sound Platform, Sonde Health has optimized its technology to operate within the strict power and processing constraints of edge devices while maintaining industry-leading accuracy. This development enables manufacturers to incorporate Sonde's voice-based mental and cognitive fitness monitoring capabilities directly into next-generation audio devices.

“By successfully embedding our technology directly into small-footprint chipsets, we've turned everyday audio devices into high-powered health tracking wearables,” says David Liu, CEO of Sonde Health. "We have proven that even the smallest consumer wearables and devices such as hearing aids, earbuds, headphones, and even smart glasses can track cognitive and mental fitness, fundamentally changing how people will manage their well-being.”

Beyond Snapdragon S7+ Gen 1, Sonde has also optimized its technology for the QCC5181 and SM8450 families of Qualcomm processors and is designed to be seamlessly ported to other front-end voice processors and sub-processors.

Sonde's vocal biomarker technology enables real-time, non invasive monitoring of mental fitness (e.g., depression, anxiety) and cognitive fitness (e.g., cognitive load, mild cognitive impairment) using just a short 30-second voice sample. Embedding this technology directly into Snapdragon’s S7 and S7+ chipsets makes it possible for manufacturers to seamlessly integrate advanced health diagnostics into their devices without requiring any hardware changes.

Consumers can monitor their mental and cognitive fitness using only their voice, turning their everyday devices into powerful health trackers. The solution relies totally on on-device processing, ensuring real-time analysis and reduced latency, as no audio data is stored on the device or sent to the cloud. Processing audio data locally on the device ensures that user data is kept secure and confidential, while motivating higher user engagement. According to Sonde, health screening in the background on edge devices overcomes the user engagement challenges found in most health care and wellness devices.

For integration of Sonde's vocal biomarker platform into consumer devices or applications, there is an optimized software development kit (SDK) available for OEMs. This reduces integration time, enabling manufacturers to add Sonde’s technology to their devices in just a few weeks, accelerating time-to-market.

Sonde Health specializes in voice-based health tracking and data insights. Leveraging a best-in-class voice data set and clinical research with over 1.2 million samples from 85,000+ individuals on four continents, Sonde uses advanced audio signal processing, speech science, and AI/machine learning to sense and analyze subtle vocal changes due to changes in a person's physiology to provide key insights into health and well-being. The company’s vocal biomarker API/SDK serves enterprise apps and devices spanning consumer wellness to population health.
