Schiit Audio Introduces IEMagni Headphone Amplifier With More Features for IEMs

Schiit announced a new model in its Magni line of headphone amplifiers, called IEMagni. This one is black and gray, rather than silver and gray or black and red, like the Magni 3+ and Heresy. The new IEMagni is called that way because it has three gain modes, including negative gain for IEMs, and advanced protection, like DC sense and mute, to protect those same IEMs. It still offers 0dB and +15dB gain and it still has 2400mW RMS output into 32 ohms for hard-to-drive headphones, making it a more versatile Magni.
 
The Schiit IEMagni also offers the lowest noise floor of any Magni, making it ideal for extremely sensitive in-ear monitors (IEMs), while maintaining the same high rated power output for hard-to-drive headphones, such as planars and high-impedance models. “IEMagni is simply the do-all Magni,” says Jason Stoddard, Schiit’s Co-Founder. 
 
The negative 10dB gain helps support very sensitive IEMs, reducing noise floor and providing exceptionally fine volume control. IEMagni is also the first Magni to feature built-in DC protection, an important feature for highly sensitive IEMs.
 
As Jason Stoddard details, the new IEMagni is built on the advanced TI OPA1656, and uses 7 separate amplifier sections for each channel (one for gain, 6 for output) in a unique no-overall-feedback configuration that allows for high input impedance even in negative gain. The input impedance never drops below 40 kOhms, allowing it to be used with a wider variety of sources, and to preserve performance of sources that may not be able to drive low-impedance loads effectively.
 
“IEMagni is also the first product conceived, designed, and built in our new Corpus Christi, Texas, facility,” reveals Stoddard. “Other Magni models, Modi, and SYS have been built there for about two months now, but this is the first product that’s 100% Texas.”
 
IEMagni is now available and costs $119, a $20 premium over Magni 3+ and Magni Heresy. Magni 3+ and Heresy remain in the Magni line, for a complete family of affordable headphone amps built in Corpus Christi, Texas. “We’ll see how people feel about a more expensive, more versatile Magni — while ensuring that we still offer the highest-value products in audio,” Jason added. All Schiit products are now designed and built in Corpus Christi, Texas, or Valencia, California.
