The Videomic on-camera microphone was undoubtedly one of the microphones that help propelled the Australian microphone brand to a leading position in the global market. Continuously updated and improved, RØDE Microphones has now announced the VideoMic Pro+, part of the products unveiled at the company's RØDEShow 2017, Freedman Electronics 50th anniversary celebration. The new VideoMic Pro+ is set to consolidate RØDE Microphones' position in the prosumer filmmaker market.
The RØDE VideoMic Pro+ is a true shotgun microphone designed for use with camcorders, DSLR cameras and portable audio recorders as a source of primary and reference audio. At the heart of the VideoMic Pro+ is a purposely designed 1/2" condenser capsule with a super-cardioid polar pattern, in a line tube and windshield that connects via a 3.5mm minijack (sending the mono signal to both left and right channels) with an incredibly low self-noise. The VideoMic Pro+ maintains the best-in-class Rycote Lyre suspension system on board that was introduced by RØDE in the previous VideoMic Pro version, and basically improves it with a set of new features requested by users.
One of the key improvement areas has to do with Power options. The new Automatic Power Function now allows automatically turning the microphone off when unplugged from the camera, while the new built-in battery door makes replacing the battery far less cumbersome than previous VideoMic models, with an attachment solution to avoid loosing it. Also, the VideoMic Pro+ can be powered by the all-new and included RØDE LB-1 Lithium-Ion Rechargeable Battery, 2 x AA Batteries or continuously via Micro USB.
A new Digital Switching feature will ensure that the VideoMic Pro+ user will always capture the best possible audio signal of the source, reducing post production and editing times. The Digital Switching includes a 3-Stage High Pass Filter to reduce low frequencies such as rumble from traffic or air conditioning; a 3-Stage Gain Control, with +20dB function designed to improve audio quality on DSLR or mirrorless cameras; a High Frequency Boost enhancing high frequencies and detail in the recording; and a Safety Channel to help ensure the signal does not clip when unexpected spikes occur.
"The VideoMic Pro+ is a new benchmark in on-camera microphones," comments Damien Wilson, RØDE and Freedman Group CEO. "We have listened to our customers and are delivering the microphone they've asked for, with features such as the built-in battery door, automatic power function and included Lithium-Ion Battery."
The VideoMic Pro+ is now shipping with a 3.5mm TRS Cable, LB-1 Lithium-Ion Rechargeable Battery and includes RØDE's 10-year warranty.
