The result of an extensive research and development effort in collaboration with OEMs, ODMs and licensing partners, the new Resonado Res-Core Gen 2 technology brings forth significant advancements, improving performance metrics by an impressive 30%, while achieving a remarkable 20% cost reduction.
Res-Core technology is Resonado's patented electrodynamic loudspeaker architecture that enables improved performance in racetrack loudspeaker designs – particularly high excursion levels with shockingly low distortion. Initially unveiled as Flat Core Speaker (FCS) technology, later dubbed Res-Core Gen 0, it debuted at CES 2020 with the Neo Mid 5 driver platform. Gen 0 gained commercial success through strategic partnerships with notable brands such as Airstream and was featured in a Hyundai concept car. Resonado further enhanced the technology with the launch of Res-Core Gen 1 in 2022, in collaboration with Klipsch, delivering substantial performance improvements.
The development of Res-Core Gen 2 was driven by the dual objectives of cost reduction and improved performance. The Gen 2 iteration incorporates proprietary innovations in motor mechanics and structural design. These advancements include layered plates for cost reduction, a spreader frame to enhance stability and reduce cost, and a foam surround to expand frequency bandwidth. The most significant innovation is the patented single magnet motor, replacing the previous dual neodymium parallel bar magnets with one bar magnet and a steel return. This change to Res-Core’s foundational architecture drastically reduces costs by reducing the amount of neodymium required to deliver the same performance.

Resonado Labs is now showcasing the capabilities of its Res-Core Gen 2 technology through two new flagship driver platforms. The NF3 Gen 2 platform (pictured above) represents a full-range transducer with a 4:1 aspect ratio, measuring 4 inches on the long axis. Designed to deliver a standard-setting flat frequency response from 180Hz to 15kHz, it offers a full, rich sound from a compact form factor.
The NW7 Gen 2 platform (pictured below) stands as a high-power long-throw woofer with a 3:1 aspect ratio, measuring 7 inches on the long axis. This iteration achieves an impressive flat frequency response below 50Hz. It delivers the significant excursion of 6mm x-max and 10mm x-mech with really low distortion, which is extremely challenging to achieve, if not impossible, with a conventional racetrack driver architecture. Factors like rocking, small voice coils, and limited spider spans pose limitations that hinder both excursion and mid-band extension. Res-Core technology overcomes these barriers, enabling products to push the boundaries in terms of consumer-driven form factor and exceptional acoustic performance.
The NF3 Gen 2 platform serves as a high-performance full-range transducer, particularly suited for soundbars, smart speakers, and as a front or side-firing solution for displays. With its flat response extending beyond 2kHz, the NW7 Gen 2 platform excels as a high-performance 2-way woofer, ideal for soundbars and smart speakers. For instance, the NW7 Gen 2 makes it possible for the Naim Mu-so-2 to be just 2 inches tall, allowing it to fit seamlessly under a TV, compared to the current 4 inch height requirement.
