Precision Devices Unveils Seismic Product Expansion with New 24-inch and 21-inch Sub Bass Woofers

June 18 2021, 01:10
Precision Devices announced the release of two large-sized sub bass drivers. The new PD.24603BR and PD.2155-1N were developed with the support of the latest Klippel Analyzer 3 measurement systems and further ongoing research into performance optimized magnetic assembly design, cone geometry and suspension technology. The result is defined by Precision Devices as a dynamic and powerful line-up of new flagship products.

The highly regarded British manufacturer of high-quality professional loudspeaker transducers continues to show the results of a period of intensified research and development efforts. Following the unveiling of an impressive brand new series of products in January 2021, with new and improved subwoofers, bass/midrange, and midrange drivers, Precision Devices goes even further down the spectrum, entering the realm of seismic forces.

Designed and engineered at the company's UK headquarters, the new 24-inch and 21-inch sub bass woofers deliver increased sensitivity, power handling and excursion capabilities with ultra-low distortion levels and seismic sub bass performance. The flagship 24-inch and 21-inch models are the first to be revealed and spearhead the company’s post-covid strategy with further 18-inch, 21-inch, 24-inch and other models in development for Q4 2021 and beyond.

Focusing on the brand’s core strengths of "delivering ultra-high performance component transducers that surpass the conventionally established limits of loudspeaker technology," Precision Devices says these new products demonstrate the company's confidence in the future and "individual design DNA." "An innovator and not an imitator," the announcement states.

The new PD.24603BR 24” Sub Bass Driver is the result of the company's heritage of over 20 years designing and manufacturing commercially available 24-inch transducers. Using a combination of performance and design optimization, the PD.24603BR is certainly a new exciting opportunity for designers or professional audio products, particularly for large-scale and top performance.

This is a large-diaphragm design using a massive 6.08" high-power copper voice coil, with a vented neodymium motor system and voice coil gap for reduced power compression with 98dB sensitivity measured at 1W/1m. Rated for 1800W (AES) power handling (3600W continuous), the PD.24603BR is able to deliver extreme levels of LF output from 20 to 200Hz, while remaining fast and articulate. While the PD.24603BR is tuned for use primarily in bass reflex enclosures from 150-220 litres, Precision Devices says the PD.24603BR is also capable for other cabinet design formats.

Designers will be able to benefit from its ergonomic, reinforced six-spoke vented cast aluminum chassis design that offers improved thermal control, and an optimized compliance suspension system that provides optimal linearity and mechanical control, essential when considering this driver is able to achieve an incredible B/L force factor of over 39 T/m, and 16mm maximum linear excursion. Both new woofers use great-looking paper cones and dust caps, with fabric surrounds.

And the new PD.2155-1N 21” Sub Bass Driver also doesn't fail to excite as an extremely low distortion and highly dynamic sub bass driver, again drawing upon Precision Devices’ long-established expertise in the design and manufacture of some of the world’s finest 21-inch transducers. The new design features a 5.5” copper voice coil with inside/outside windings on a glass fiber former, achieving a 16mm maximum linear excursion, and producing a usable frequency response from 30Hz to 300Hz. Engineered and optimized for hybrid horn-loaded cabinet designs, the transducer produces 98dB sensitivity over its working band and is capable of handling 3000W continuous program power (1500W AES).

Featuring a neodymium magnet assembly, generating a very high force factor of 30 T/m, along with smooth linear excursion, the PD.2155-1N also benefits from the new ergonomic, vented cast aluminum chassis design that offers improved thermal control, vented neodymium motor system and voice coil gap for reduced power compression, and double silicone spider configuration with optimized compliance.

Both transducers are available now for audio system manufacturer sample orders, and due to begin shipping to global retail partners in Q3 2021. Manufacturers and designers looking to bring new audio products to market should reach out now.
