New DIYclassD UcD700 Monoblock Amplifier Kit Now Available

Hypex Electronics, the specialist supplier in power amplifiers, power supplies and DSP solutions announced a new powerful UcD700 mono kit featuring its UcD technologies marketed under its DIYclassD brand - specifically for the DIY audio market. As the company explains, the Hypex UcD700HG with HxR amplifier module has been around for many years but was never offered as a DIY building kit before. Now, DIYclassD offers an easy to build 700 watts monoblock kit including all the necessary parts that users don't even need to solder.

The Hypex UcD700HG amplifier module is a self-contained high-performance class D amplifier intended for a wide range of audio applications, including demanding audio reproduction in recording studios or at home. Notable features are flat frequency response irrespective of load impedance, nearly frequency-independent distortion behavior and very low radiated and conducted EMI. Control is based on a phase-shift controlled self-oscillating loop taking feedback only at the speaker output.

HxR (High-Performance Voltage Regulators) are externally compensated transconductance amplifiers. The load decoupling capacitor thereby doubles as compensation capacitor. In a traditional emitter-output regulator, a constant-gain amplifier is placed around an emitter follower whose output impedance is low and scales inversely with load current. The dominant pole is set inside the voltage amplifier with any load capacitance adding an unwanted pole, reducing phase margin. As output impedance becomes highly current-dependent, so does phase margin.

This contrasts with a transconductance regulator where the error voltage controls the output current. Dominant-pole compensation is effected by the decoupling capacitor across the load. Stability requires a minimum load capacitance and increasing it improves phase margin further. Output impedance works out as the inverse of transconductance which in turn is given by the transconductance of the difference amplifier and the Hfe of the pass device, all of which are nearly constant with load. The advantage of linear output impedance plays out most directly in power supply sensitive audio applications, where a non-linear response from the power supply adds distortion. Because of the extreme bandwidth of the HxR regulators, care should be taken to take the sense connections directly at the decoupling capacitor.

The DIYclassD UcD700 mono kit now offers a powerful and easy way to get a high-end HiFi system using the UcD700HG with HxR technology for a very affordable price. The Kit is designed so that everybody can build it and enjoy the sound in the shortest time possible. Everything is included, starting with a really nice DIYclassD chassis, UcD700HG with HxR module, SMPS1200A700 power supply, complete internal cable harness, all required connectors, all required mounting materials, and complete comprehensive manual (you need to supply your power cable). All this is included for €500 Euros (excl. VAT).

Hypex was founded in 1996 by Jan-Peter van Amerongen (1964-2021) as a supplier of plate amplifiers for live sound loudspeakers. The products drew the attention of hi-fi speaker manufacturers, resulting first in a line of active subwoofer amplifier subassemblies, shortly followed by multichannel units with active crossover filters for the studio market. In 2003 the company transitioned to the newly invented 'Universal Class D' (UcD) technology, licensed from Philips, and later followed by NCore technology, after hiring UcD's inventor, Bruno Putzeys, to be the company's chief of R&D.

Hypex decided in 2016 to separate its activities as an amplifier manufacturer for the OEM market from its growing business in the DIY audio market and created the DIYclassD brand, The website www.DIYclassd.com was also specifically created to promote its DIY-oriented offerings and in order to ensure better client support with a more personal approach for that market.
