On the occasion of its 50th Anniversary (1973/2023), British hifi brand Naim celebrated with a limited edition of a very special product. The NAIT 50 is a remaster of the very first NAIT compact integrated amplifier released in 1983, limited to only 1,973 pieces. The Salisbury-based company carefully recrafted its iconic product from the Naim archives and gave it an updated inside and adding new features such as an headphone output.
Presented at the High End Munich show, the NAIT 50 is born from the legacy of NAIT 1, released in 1983 - a design that fits perfectly in the current retro-hifi trend. Handcrafted in Naim’s workshops, the NAIT 50 uses a smart, sophisticated aesthetic with its aluminum chassis construction and a front panel that combines tradition and modernity. Retro, but still cool for today.
With technically improved circuits thanks to modern technology, Naim's engineers made sure the new NAIT 50 offers exceptional amplification performance in its price category. To make an integrated amplifier attractive again, Naim made sure the NAIT 50 can deal with all types of loudspeakers with a 25W class AB power stage combined with a streamer and a turntable input. This is an updated MM phono stage with discrete transistors. And the front panel's input selection buttons were relabelled accordingly. As Naim explains, these locking switches control 3 relays for input selection, significantly improved compared to the original NAIT 1.
New features on this anniversary edition include a now mandatory headphone output (1/4") in the front, with a gain of 16dB. The updated design also provides a now mandatory stand-by power of 0.5W, smartly using two internal power supplies; one is a high quality audiophile linear type, based on a large toroidal transformer and the other a highly efficient SMPSU. Thanks to this design, the NAIT 50 offers a soft start power-up sequence, to minimize power-up inrush current and automatic shuts down after 17 minutes when no audio is present on inputs (this can be disabled)
The Naim NAIT 50 will be available in a limited edition of only 1973 numbered pieces, in tribute to the 50th anniversary and the year the brand was created by Julian Vereker. The price for the limited-edition NAIT 50 is $3,599 and will be available from July 2023.
