As demand surges for higher bandwidth at the network edge in order to transport more and more media channels, Media Links, the manufacturer and pioneer in Media over IP transport technology, introduced its new MD8000-100G solution. This high performance 100G combined Ethernet switch and trunk interface allows media companies to support up to 48x SFP (1G/10G/25G) and 32x QSFP28 (100G) ports. Media Links offers the 100G solution as part of a complete ecosystem solution for Wide Area Transport, Remote Production, Contribution, and more.
Under the hood of the new MD8000-100G is an integrated 100Gb/s Switch and Network Interface Controller, representing a 10X bandwidth increase from 10Gb/s to 100Gb/s. The Network Interface function supports both long range and extended range optical QSFP28 (Quad Small Form-factor Pluggable) 100Gb/s transceivers. The solution is compliant with interoperable industry standards including JPEG XS and ST 2110.
Existing MD8000 users can install this new solution in field-deployed chassis and it is fully backward compatible with the MD8000 platform's extensive portfolio of line card products, already in use by large and small media companies. Media Links, a Technology and Engineering Emmy Award winner is best known for providing its media over IP transport and switching solutions for the world’s most watched sporting and entertainment events. The company’s product portfolio is used for broadcasting the Winter & Summer Olympics, World Cup Soccer and Football, Professional/Amateur American Football, Baseball and Basketball games, political conventions, entertainment showcases and much more.
The new generation MD8000-100G Edition will allow broadcasters and sports/entertainment producers across the globe to transport more media channels than ever before. Whether its uncompressed or compressed video, audio, and/or data over IP from remote sporting and entertainment venues to distant production studios, the MD8000-100G addresses the ever increasing need for more and more bandwidth at the network edge.
Even at 100Gb/s, Media Links‘ solutions can all be seamlessly protected, providing disturbance-free, uninterrupted media (video, audio, data) transport across wide area networks.
