HyperX, the gaming division of Kingston Technology, announced the HyperX Cloud Flight S wireless gaming headset is now available and shipping. This new gaming-grade wireless headset is an interesting design since it offers complete freedom with free-standing Qi-certified wireless charging and up to 30 hours of battery life. Working with 2.4GHz WiFi wireless audio connectivity for low latency, the Cloud Flight S features 50mm dynamic drivers which are optimized to render virtual 7.1 surround sound from games into immersive binaural.
The gaming market is a completely different segment where things like extended compatibility with Bluetooth sources is not that important. Instead, gaming accessory companies focus on the features that matters to gamers, which includes long-term usage comfort, and higher wireless audio quality. And that is the reason why gaming headphones use WiFi 2.4GHz instead, where sound is not only better than anything available on Bluetooth, the critical latency is much lower, connectivity is always there - no need for pairing - and the wireless range always users to get away from the desk or living room - in this case, the standard wireless range is up to 20 meters, instead or the typical 10 meters allowed by Bluetooth.
But the only thing that still affects the wireless audio experience for gamers is the need to recharge the batteries. That is the reason why Hyper X focused on designed a wireless charging solution which gamers will simply use and forget about previous experiences. There is a Qi wireless charging cradle where the headset is placed to charge at the end of the game, making sure it will be ready again when needed. Since the battery life of the HyperX Cloud Flight S is 30 hours, the headset is always ready.
HyperX recently expanded its Qi-certified wireless charging products with the release of two additional Qi-based products: the Pulsefire Dart wireless gaming mouse that offers up to 50 hours of battery life on a single charge, and the ChargePlay Base Qi wireless charger that can simultaneously charge up to two devices, including the HyperX Cloud Flight S headset. The Qi wireless charger is sold separately and includes an AC Adapter that supports 2 devices up to 10W per pad (up to 15W total when charging 2 devices). Combined, these products offer wireless charging convenience to the world of gaming and expand wireless flexibility.
Otherwise, the headset sports a closed cup design with 90-degree rotating ear circumaural cups, using 50mm dynamic drivers with neodymium magnets that deliver extended frequency response. The lightweight design also offers adjustable steel sliders on its headband, pliable leatherette and plush memory foam for improved comfort. The PC, PS4 and PS4 Pro ready headset also includes a detachable microphone with an LED mic mute indicator and built-in mic monitoring and features intuitive earcup controls to adjust game and chat volume, which is customizable using HyperX software. The headset can be charged with a USB cable.
“As the wireless gaming peripheral market continues to grow, we are excited to start shipping the first gaming headset that supports Qi wireless charging,” says Nate Almond, audio business manager, HyperX. “Cloud Flight S is a great wireless headset for people wanting high-quality audio and the freedom and flexibility to play without cables.”
The HyperX Cloud Flight S is available for $159.99 MSRP in the US.
