GRAS Launches New Configurations for GRAS 45CC Headphone Test Fixture

March 31 2022, 02:10
As the headphones market continues to grow, and more companies are working on frequency response correction and emulation for headphones, the requirements for reliable and calibrated test fixtures are also increasing. A recognized leader in the segment, GRAS Sound & Vibration has just launched new variations of its popular GRAS 45CC headphone test fixture, allowing for the incorporation of pinnae along with other new features.

Expanding its already extensive catalog of headphone test and measurement solutions, now as part of Axiometrix Solutions, GRAS Sound & Vibration has launched four new configurations for the GRAS 45CC Test Fixture. The new variants enable headphone and headset manufacturers to obtain accurate and reproducible test results, dual-channel testing and multiple configurations options that are easy to use and will offer an efficient and inexpensive testing solution.

The GRAS 45CC platform is the only affordable desktop solution on the market that is designed to be part of a complete test and measurement modular system, including high-frequency ear simulators and anthropometric pinnae, while meeting all applicable ANSI, IEC, ITU-T and other industry standards. The four new configurations to the 45CC test fixture series are ideal for Research and Development (R&D) and for aligning testing on the Production Line.

With these new 45CC-14, 45CC-15, 45CC-16 and 45CC-17 configurations, GRAS offers 10 variations that target different testing needs and are configurable for any headphone test setup and test environment, with a mouth simulator option for all of them. Building on the malleability of the existing configurations, the new 45CC versions maintain the ease of use, and add the possibility for more realistic testing that enables R&D and Production Engineers to benchmark and align tests across the entire production line.

The new 45CC products enable headphone and headset manufacturers to obtain accurate, repeatable and reproducible test results, dual-channel testing, and multiple configuration options. Targeting human-like testing for scenarios that require acoustic loading and adherence with IEC60318-4, the 45CC-14 configuration includes externally polarized ear simulators and anthropometric pinnae, while the 45CC-15 includes prepolarized IEC 60318-4 ear simulators and anthropometric pinnae. Likewise, the 45CC-16 features externally polarized IEC 60318-4 high-frequency ear simulators and anthropometric pinnae, and the 45CC-17 configuration includes prepolarized high-frequency ear simulators and anthropometric pinnae, meeting the needs of test scenarios at higher frequencies.

"There has long been a need for better alignment of tests across R&D and Production," says Niels Kjærgaard, VP of Business Development at GRAS Sound & Vibration. "The 45CC platform already has a solid footprint in the testing market and we are responding to a rising demand from leading headphone and headset manufacturers to offer a versatile text fixture, which in an easy and inexpensive way, allows R&D and production engineers to develop the design of tests, and to validate and align these tests in the production line setting."

The four new versions are ideal for test scenarios that require or benefit from realistic human-like acoustic loading and ear geometry when testing any headphone or earphone type (around ear, on ear, in ear, and insert). The 45CC-16 and 45CC-17 are designed for test scenarios up to 20 kHz.

Production of the new 45CC variants is underway and orders can be placed now with GRAS´ standard delivery of 6 weeks.
