Fohhn Audio AG announced the release of its new PT-70 loudspeaker system. What makes the PT-70 design unique is its so-called Convertible Dispersion Technology (CDT), registered as a utility model, enabling it to be manually switched between cardioid and vented operation modes. When the PT-70 is used as a cardioid system, significantly less sound is emitted from the back of the speaker. This results in both a quieter working environment for the band and a richer, deeper sound for the audience.
This latest addition to the German manufacturer’s Perform-Series is now shipping. Like all Fohhn Perform-Series models, the new PT-70 loudspeaker system has been specially developed for concert sound and touring. The horn-loaded, passive, 2-way speaker makes an ideal compact sound reinforcement system for concerts in halls, tents and clubs, or for town festivals and smaller open-air events. It also functions as a solid extension for larger line arrays or Beam Steering systems, as well as offering a multi-functional plug & play solution for the rental market.
Fohhn’s engineered Convertible Dispersion Technology (CDT) enables the loudspeaker to be manually switched between vented and cardioid operational modes. In the latter case, this means significantly less sound being transmitted onto the stage area from the rear of the speaker, resulting in the best possible levels of sound quality and speech intelligibility.
The PT-70 has 2 x 12” chassis with compression chamber and horn, plus a 1.4” compression driver on CD horn. It also has a passive crossover including a voltage-controlled circuit that protects the high frequency driver against overload. An integrated mid-range waveform system suppresses unwanted side lobes in the vertical acoustic axis. The loudspeaker is available with two different beam dispersion angles (90° x 50° or 60° x 50°) and offers a maximum sound pressure level of 140 dB, a frequency range of 52 Hz – 20 kHz and a load capacity of 900 W (nominal) / 3600 W (peak).
Weighing in at 39 kg, the PT-70’s compact dimensions (400 x 850 x 450 mm) and carefully designed mounting bracket system makes it highly suitable for both flown applications and secure stand-alone tripod use. The speaker housing is built from steel brace reinforced multiplex birch plywood and coated with a scratch-resistant, polyurethane black finish (with other RAL colours also available on request).
For over 20 years, Fohhn Audio AG has developed professional loudspeaker systems that combine innovative design and functionality with first class sound quality. Development of all Fohhn systems takes place in-house in Nürtingen, Germany, incorporating the company’s own highly developed DSP-, amplifier-, network- and remote control technology. The company focuses on the integration of state-of-the-art technologies such as Beam Steering and on the latest developments in 3-D audio and digital audio networking technology.
Following a series of successful live tests, the new PT-70 is now shipping.
