dB Design, Dean Rivera’s company, has released a new four-channel speaker switcher (FCSS). If you and your company do a lot of loudspeaker development it means you are doing a lot of subjective comparative analysis between the new models, last year’s models, and your competitors’ models in the same category, which makes a high-quality speaker switcher an indispensable tool.
This new offering from db Design has several attractive features including the ability to switch up to four pairs of speakers with front panel or remote control channel select and auto switching between reference and up to three other speakers with three selectable switching times.
The front panel shows illuminated channel indicator switches and the quick terminals accept up to 10 AWG (0.10”) speaker wire with independent left and right ground paths . The unit uses a UL listed universal power supply, 100 to 240 V, 50 to ~60 Hz with up to 10-A switching current (800 W or 8 Ω).
While I personally do all subjective comparisons in mono, this switcher can be used for both mono and stereo comparisons. With the IR remote, a user can manually switch between any two speakers or set up automatic switching between two speakers, three speakers, or four speakers. Each automatic switch sequence has a selectable time delay between switching of 2, 5, or 10 s.
The new FCSS costs $495 plus shipping and is available from dB Design.
