Connect One Introduces Pico WiReach Highly Secure and Cloud Ready IoT Wi-Fi Module

November 8 2016, 04:00
Connect One introduced the first Wi-Fi module in its next-generation family of 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi modules for the Internet of Things (IoT) market at the electronica 2016 show in Munich, Germany. The new Pico WiReach IoT Wi-Fi module is a small size, sub $10 price, highly secure and cloud ready development solution which is ready to power new-generation connected devices.

Network and cloud connectivity is continuing to be a must-have ability for many applications such as medical, security, industrial control, smart grid, asset management, point of sale and the vast growing market of the Internet of Things. The new Pico WiReach module continues the wireless innovation tradition at Connect One that has brought easy-to-integrate and affordable Wi-Fi solutions to the market for over a decade.

The Pico WiReach IoT Wi-Fi module is available under $10 for 1000+ quantities in a small SMT form-factor (28 x 20 x 2.8 cm), with switchable Wi-Fi access point and Wi-Fi client operation modes and featuring Wi-Fi Enterprise security and built-in cloud connectivity. Pico WiReach includes SSL3.0 and TLS 1.2 security protocols and supports 64/128-bit WEP, WPA/WPA2, AES-128/256, SHA-128/192/256, and 3DES encryption. The module supports Enterprise security by implementing 802.1X authentication with a RADIUS server.

According to Connect One, Pico WiReach offers excellent system performance for IoT connectivity with Cypress BCM43362 Wi-Fi Transceiver SOC and its 802.11b/g/n MAC and baseband functionality. The module ships with built-in connectivity to Connect One’s iChipNet cloud, which enables remote access to Pico WiReach modules for the purpose of maintenance and data collection. 3rd party cloud solutions will be supported with future firmware releases.

The solution also features a rich AT+i command set, SPI and UART interface, and built-in PCB or U.FL antenna connector. Other capabilities include 10 simultaneous TCP/UDP sockets; two listening TCP sockets; SMTP, MIME, POP3, FTP, Secure FTP and HTTP/HTTPS clients; and two HTTP/HTTPS embedded Web servers. Connect One also confirmed that it will be introducing IPv4/IPv6 support, as well as a built-in sensor port for external sensors by end of 2016.

“We have great confidence in this new Wi-Fi module,” notes Erez Lev, General Manager for Connect One. “It is based on over a decade of Wi-Fi experience with many customers, markets and applications, and at a price-point that is affordable to almost any IoT project out there.”

Pico WiReach and its evaluation board are available now.
