CODA Audio Releases Space Hub Immersive Audio Processor

November 3 2021, 01:10
German pro audio manufacturer CODA Audio is unveiling its own immersive audio processor, completing a system approach to the format in performance events. The Space Hub was designed for low latency processing of up to 128 objects x 128 output channels, using the 3D panning algorithms selectable per object within its Space software. The new solution, presented at the Tonmeistertagung 2021 conference in Dusseldorf, also explores the advantages of CODA's linear–phase loudspeaker designs.

The new CODA Space Hub immersive audio processor uses a powerful multicore CPU workstation to process digital audio at 48kHz or 96kHz, 32-bit floating point, with redundant connectivity based on Dante, AES67 and more audio network protocols planned for future implementation. On top of its unique architecture supporting highly advanced spatial audio algorithms for the positioning and movement of sound objects - with the key possibility to select between different panning algorithms per object - the Space Hub also delivers its own Advanced Reverb Engine in Stereo, Mono and Aux (with fader per object), plus downmixes for subwoofers, fills, etc.

The Space Hub Control Software is available for Windows and Mac OS and is able to import system layouts from CODA's System Optimiser software and mixing snapshots with adjustable fade times. It supports VST3, AU, AAX and AAX-DSP plugins for automation and control, with support for Open Sound Control (OSC), MIDI and PosiStageNet (stage tracker) control systems.

The Space Hub Control software also provides reliable control and monitoring of the Space Hub processor and can run on tablet and native interfaces. For artists, producers and engineers, this complete Space Immersive System approach opens up new possibilities for performances, reaching out to an expanded audience in a more effective and emotional way. Since object-based audio productions are not limited to any specific speaker setup, systems can be created using diverse configurations from 9 up to 128 loudspeakers.

This allows the flexibility to create immersive audio designs for systems of all sizes, from small corporate events, all the way to the largest of stadium productions. And the software provides all the tools for production planning, including SPL Pressure mapping and detailed layouts. The configuration is assisted with a template engine and measurement microphones (probes) that can be placed anywhere within the 3D space, making line array setup stress-free, including all electronic filters to correct for distance and splay angles.

As CODA Audio's founder and Managing Director Svetly Alexandrov highlights, the Space Hub processor is a core part of a multichannel immersive system where the phase response of every loudspeaker must ensure time coherence, improved localization of sound sources and spatial stability. CODA Audio designs linear–phase loudspeakers, which are an essential part of the Space Immersive System Solution.

"Space Hub is certainly central to our move into immersive audio systems, but it shouldn’t be viewed as a single defining product. Instead, it must be seen in the context of the wider Space Immersive System Solution as a whole. We’re looking forward to unveiling this exciting new development where, as always, hearing will be believing!,” says David Webster, CODA Audio Director of Global Marketing.

The Space Hub processor was successfully trialled at an electronic music event in France (Youtube video available here), and now presented at the Tonmeistertagung 2021 conference, in Germany.
