Audio-Technica expanded its brand-new R-Series line of professional open-back headphones with the introduction of the ATH-R30x Open-Back Reference Headphones. First previewed in January 2025 at the NAMM show, this more affordable model joins the ATH-R50x and updated flagship ATH-R70xa, launched earlier. The new Audio-Technica R-Series of open-back headphones offers a more natural, spacious listening experience, ideal for mixing and mastering in a studio or other private space.

Audio-Technica R-Series line of professional open-back headphones now includes the updated flagship ATH-R70xa, the ATH-R50x, and now the affordable ATH-R30x model.

The new Audio-Technica ATH-R30x open-back headphones have a similar design to the other two models in the series, but at a more affordable price. According to the Japanese company, the ATH-R30x headphones are ideally suited for those working in a home studio, or anyone interested in exploring open-back sound. So, while the newly updated ATH-R70xa are the new open-back professional flagship from Audio-Technica, and the ATH-R50x is promoted as a versatile choice for any professional or home studio, the new ATH-R30x is the budget alternative for content creators and home studios.

The characteristic fully open-back sound relies solely on the performance of the 40mm drivers (smaller than the 45mm diaphragms used in the ATH-R50x and ATH-R70xa), with the ATH-R30x headphones engineered to eliminate internal resonances and provide extremely quick transient response with minimal distortion. The spacious soundstage and audio clarity are the result of the transducer design with very little additional tuning or damping. High-efficiency magnets and pure alloy magnetic circuit design reduce distortion and ensure accurate and extended high-frequency response. Acoustically transparent, honeycomb-mesh housings provide the natural and spacious response.

The headband on the lightweight ATH-R30x features an adjustable headpad that can be positioned to the user’s preference, ensuring the highest level of comfort. The replaceable velour earpads and cooling open-back design add to the comfort, allowing the user to stay fully immersed in the audio even through the longest listening sessions. The ATH-R30x comes with a 3.5mm TRS connector and a screw-on 1/4” adapter.
