Planar magnetic headphones specialist, Audeze announced the release of “Team Carbon,” an Amazon-exclusive color addition to its Audeze Mobius lineup, already one of the most acclaimed gaming headphones of 2018, so far available in Copper and Blue. For CES 2019, apart from the new color, Audeze will be introducing new customizable Head Gesture Keybinds, a very interesting implementation that makes use of the integrated WAVES Nx head tracking technology. With customizable head gestures, users will be able to significantly expand gaming abilities, including opening up new possibilities for users with disabilities.
Combining leading-edge, best in class technologies, Audeze Mobius headphones already deliver a realistic, immersive experience that push the boundaries of user’s imagination and maximize the audio experience of gaming, movies, and music. Audeze’s planar magnetic technology produces high-quality audio, combined with WAVES Nx head tracking technology that creates hyper-realistic 3D audio experiences. This combination of technologies is also paving way for innovations that Audeze confesses, could not have been imagined and are the results of seeing the product in actual use.
Audeze announced the introduction of customizable Head Gesture Keybinds. With Head Gesture Keybinds, users will be able to map various keyboard inputs and macros to corresponding head-tracking movements. For example, a head tilt to the left while wearing Mobius can be mapped to a game-specific action such as lean left from cover. The functionality is fully customizable and can be used to trigger a variety of actions in various games. For those who simply wish to jump in and play, several game-specific presets will be included in the update to Audeze HQ.
Head Gesture Keybinds provide a greater degree of freedom when gaming with Mobius, allowing the user to tailor their playing experience through multiple hands-free input options beyond a traditional mouse and keyboard. These features will also provide a new means of control for gamers with physical disabilities. Head Gesture Keybinds are currently being beta-tested for a full release on Audeze HQ in early 2019. Audeze HQ is a free downloadable application for Windows and Mac, and currently offers HRTF Personalization, Sound Profiles, Head-Tracking Visualization, and Device Information.
As Sankar Thiagasamudram, Audeze founder and CEO confesses, “Once in a while you create something that has completely un-intended consequences. When we introduced head-tracking in our Mobius headphone, we thought it would be cool to map the head movements to trigger actions in the games. For example, nod your head and reload your gun or tilt your head to peek around a wall in the game. Then when we started beta-testing these, one of the testers was physically disabled and he started using it to help him with the game play. We never realized this feature could be useful to people who had physical limitations, so we made the feature even more customizable. You can now trigger pretty much any keyboard command from a movement of your head. After beta testing is completed, this will be rolled out as a free upgrade to every Mobius user.”
“Audeze has always been defined by our commitment to innovation and our passion for creating best-in-class listening experiences,” adds Thiagasamudram. “Mobius was developed as a foundational platform with limitless potential to elevate gaming audio. With Mobius, Audeze continues to expand the expectations for what a headphone can achieve, offering additional avenues for increased immersion, efficiency, and entertainment while still maintaining world class audio.”
Mobius is designed with the gamer’s quality of life in mind. It comes with a flexible, detachable boom microphone with built-in noise attenuation, mute/unmute functionality, and independent microphone volume control to provide crystal-clear voice quality. With the inclusion of contoured memory foam earpads and an adjustable, durable, memory foam padded headband, Mobius delivers lightweight comfort ideal for long-term use.
Audeze Mobius retails for $399. Audeze Mobius Team Carbon will be available to purchase exclusively at Amazon starting on January 10, 2019. The Team Carbon Audeze Mobius and an early demonstration of the Head Gesture Keybinds will be shown at the Audeze Showcase at CES 2019.
