Antelope Audio Announces New Goliath HD Gen 3 Studio Audio Interface Including Modeling Microphone

July 30 2019, 00:50
Following the introduction of its advanced mic modeling technology in 2018, Antelope Audio now announced availability of its Goliath HD Gen 3 audio interface, which features Thunderbolt, USB 3.0, Pro Tools HDX and MADI connections. The new interface also offers state-of-the-art AD/DA converters to achieve 136dB DNR (dynamic range) on its mastering-grade monitor outputs. The new studio solution already includes a complimentary Edge Duo microphone with switchable polar patterns and realtime mic modeling via onboard FPGA-powered emulations and Accusonic mic preamps and 3D Modeling Engine.

As implied by the Thunderbolt, USB 3.0, HDX Port, MADI wording blazoned across the front panel, the new Goliath HD Gen 3 will work with any modern DAW (Digital Audio Workstation), connecting to Mac and Windows computers with 192 kHz audio over Thunderbolt  2 or USB 3.0, and also supports Pro Tools HDX (available as a separately-purchasable, optional upgrade), and MADI (which can be used to connect to the separate Dante Bridge).

As an Antelope Audio innovation, the new flagship studio interface features proprietary HDX Compensation Delay technology to ensure that any analogue or digital input entering Pro Tools arrives as a fully-sample-accurate signal source, while the company’s custom-created, ultra-fast Thunderbolt driver delivers 64 channels of simultaneous playback and recording at up to sub-millisecond (imperceptible) latency. Additionally, a latency-free direct monitoring environment encompassing four independent internal mixers, each with 32 assignable inputs, is always at hand.

As Antelope highlights, the Goliath HD Gen 3 interface supports both digital audio and networking connectivity, including industry-standard AES, MADI, ADAT, and S/PDIF, apart from the Thunderbolt, USB, and HDX connections, combining a total astronomical 346 digital I/O channels. On the analog domain, the Goliath HD Gen 3 also includes 16 Accusonic mic preamps (M/L 1 through to M/L 16) with mic modeling support for the included Edge Duo microphone’s 11 emulations, two analog inserts, and four instrument inputs (G1 through to G4) alongside an additional 16 analog inputs via two D-SUB 25 connectors. For analog outputs, the interface offers 32 analog outputs over four D-SUB 25 connectors, two transformer re-amp outputs (R1 and R2), and two independently-assignable headphone outputs (HP 1 and HP 2), bringing the total to 38 analog outputs.

Of course, no studio production project is complete without audio effects and again, as implied by the ZERø-latency FPGA Engine and AFC Clocking Technology wording also displayed across the front panel. The Goliath HD Gen 3 includes 36 realtime hardware-based FPGA effects, taken directly from Antelope Audio’s AFX library — namely, AuraVerb (reverb); BA-31 (mic preamp model); ClearQ (linear EQ); FET-A76 (FET-based compressor); Gyraf Gyratec X (true tube stereo compressor); PowerEx (in-house expander); PowerFFC (feedforward compressor); PowerGate (noise gate); VCA-160 (VCA-style compressor); VEQ-1A (vintage tube EQ); VEQ-HLF (Pultec-style high- and low-pass filter); VMEQ-5 (midrange EQ); Stay-Levin (American tube compressor); and x903 (natural-sounding compressor), plus 11 guitar amps and 11 guitar cabinets.

Coupled with Antelope Audio’s latest 64-bit Acoustically Focused Clocking jitter management system, the built-in Class-A mic preamps and enhanced AD/DA conversion combine to deliver top, studio-quality sound. And Antelope's acclaimed clocking can be distributed to suitably-equipped external studio equipment via twin Word Clock outputs. Additionally, the interface accepts an external reference from Antelope Audio’s 10M Rubidium Atomic Clock, connected to the dedicated 10M IN input.

The interface's new 3.5-inch high-resolution, capacitive touchscreen TFT panel enables immediate access to metering, preferences, gain adjustment, and mission-critical functions, while the Goliath HD Gen 3 chassis was designed to handle the most demanding studio setups.

The Goliath HD Gen 3 is available for purchase — priced at an RRP of $5,995.00 USD, including an Edge Duo modeling microphone — through Antelope Audio’s growing global network of authorized dealers, or directly online from Antelope Audio, visiting the dedicated webpage that offers further information regarding the microphone emulations and FPGA effects.
