At ISE 2020 in Amsterdam, the Alliance for IP Media Solutions (AIMS) ProAV Working Group will introduce Internet Protocol Media Experience (IPMX), a set of open standards and specifications designed to enable carriage of compressed and uncompressed video, audio, and data over IP networks. IPMX addresses the ProAV industry's need for a single set of common, ubiquitous standards-based protocols that ensure interoperability for AV-over-IP. The AIMS stand (15-B250) will feature information and technical sessions covering every aspect of IPMX.
"IPMX implements a standards-based approach based on SMPTE ST 2110, with features and capabilities that target the specific needs of the ProAV industry," says David Chiappini, chair of the AIMS ProAV Working Group. "As manufacturers build IPMX support into their products, end users and integrators can be assured that those products truly conform to an interoperable and open standard for AV over IP."
In addition to simplifying implementation of SMPTE ST 2110 and ensuring interoperability for AV-over-IP systems, IPMX incorporates further features tailored to ProAV installations. These features include AMWA NMOS IS-04 and IS-05 for discovery, registration, and connection management; and specifications for copy protection and security.
IPMX is the result of the AIMS ProAV Working Group's efforts to define an open-standards approach to addressing the ProAV world's move toward IP media. The working group's approach for ProAV follows AIMS' broader efforts with the broadcast/media industry — namely, to promote multivendor interoperability that will foster long-term protection of customers' investments in technology and products. With the new IPMX open standards and specifications approach, AIMS presents a flexible, future-proof way to meet the video, audio, and data requirements of current and future ProAV solutions over IP — a framework for open, easy-to-deploy solutions.
AIMS Presentations
AIMS has announced a full schedule of presentations, including introductory and technical presentations on IPMX, in the AIMS Theater (Room G110) and in its stand (15-B250) throughout the show at ISE 2020. The AIMS presentations will provide two tracks: a less technical Overview Track for attendees who want to understand the IP-related technology of IPMX, and a Technical Track designed for those who want to understand the underlying mechanics of IPMX and who are considering or planning adoption.
Room G110: Overview Track (Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2-3:30 p.m.)
Andrew Starks, Macnica,
"Introducing IPMX"
Claudio Becker-Foss, Direct Out,
"Changes in the Production World"
Andre Testa, Matrox
"How Does IPMX Really Work?"
Room G110: Technical Track (Tuesday, Feb. 11, 4-5:15 p.m.)
Andreas Hildebrand, ALC NetworX GmbH,
"IPMX - Essential Ingredients Overview"
Jean-Baptiste Lorent, Intopix,
"JPEG-XS for ProAV"
The full schedule of AIMS presentations is posted at https://aimsalliance.org/theater-presentations-ise-2020/, with details about speakers, topics, presentation times, and locations.
"IPMX addresses the ProAV industry's need for a single set of common, ubiquitous standards-based protocols that ensure interoperability for AV over IP, and ISE 2020 provides an excellent forum for education and discussion of this important advance," adds Chiappini.
The Alliance for IP Media Solutions (AIMS) represents the interests of broadcast and Pro AV companies and technology suppliers that share a commitment to facilitating the industry's transition from baseband to IP through industry standards and interoperable solutions that enable the rapid evolution to open, agile, and versatile production environments.
