Introduced in 2013 by Ultimate Ears, a brand of Logitech, the UE BOOM wireless speaker has won four prestigious design awards. Built to withstand anything, Ultimate Ears’ BOOM speaker “blasts” 360-degree sound, and features a water- and stain-resistant acoustic skin and up to 15 hours of battery life. With the announced collaboration with the six-time GRAMMY Award winning electronic dance music producer, Skrillex, Ultimate Ears expects its UE BOOM to become the absolute symbol of how people experience and interact with music today.

The UE BOOM cylindrical shaped wireless speaker and “social music player” was announced by Ultimate Ears marketing as a solution “to help you rage, riot, party and play the music you love, out loud,” and designed “to make the most of digital music’s convenience, while making it less of a solitary experience.”
The UE BOOM wireless speaker intends to set “a new standard for listening to music” by offering portable 360-degree sound. Its versatile go-anywhere shape is wrapped in a specially developed acoustic skin that is both water and stain resistant and the device features a 15-hour rechargeable battery. But the main reason why Universal Ears calls it a “social music player” has to do with the way the unit was designed to connect wirelessly with others. It’s possible to wirelessly connect two UE BOOMs together through the free UE BOOM app (available for iOS and Android), creating either stereo-to-stereo modes or traditional left/right stereo modes.
The UE BOOM allows pairing of up to 8 Bluetooth (A2DP profile) enabled source devices (two source devices at the same time) and wirelessly play (stream) to 2 UE BOOMs from one Source. The mobile range of play is up to 15m (50 ft). The speaker pairs with other devices using NFC (passive and some active source devices). Audio specs for the UE BOOM detail a Maximum Sound Level of 88dBA, and a lower frequency response from 90Hz upwards using two 1.5”, 4 Ohm drivers and wwo 2” passive radiators.

The UE BOOM wireless speaker won a prestigious 2014 Gold International Design Excellence Award (IDEA) in the entertainment category from the Industrial Designers Society of America (ISDA). This was the first IDEA win for the Ultimate Ears brand and the fourth design win for UE BOOM since its introduction in May 2013.
