Most software companies have been long critized by their inconsistent and sometimes disruptive upgrade policies. Cakewalk, now a Gibson Brand, is trying to change that paradox introducing a new membership upgrade policy based on user feedback. The Cakewalk SONAR “Braintree” release is the first example of that new policy, introducing enhancements to the core program and a variety of new content for musicians of all genres.
Cakewalk announced the new SONAR “Braintree” release for SONAR Artist, Professional, and Platinum. Thanks to the new Membership program, SONAR users have regular access to new features, enhancements, and content. February’s “Braintree” release addresses improvements requested by the community, coupled with high-quality content that complements SONAR’s rich feature set with everything from new presets to innovative loop libraries. (Releases are named after cities in Massachusetts.)
The Braintree release includes added functionality (more VocalSync rendering options, the option to save Mix Recall templates, DSD import/export upgrades), effects (ProChannel edition of Boz Digital Labs’ Bark of Dog processor, CA-X series Acoustic Piezo amp sim, a new VoxTools processor for the Anderton Collection), content (126 new REmatrix convolution reverb impulse responses, Brian Hardgroove’s Bass Library with 300 thundering bass loops from Public Enemy’s bassist/bandleader, 15 ProChannel presets for acoustic guitar, and the Hardgroove Steinberger Rapture soft synth expansion pack) and fixes (more than 25 fixes and workflow enhancements).
Bill Jackson, SONAR Product Manager, states, “On the heels of a major release, it’s great to be able to interact with customers and deliver what they need, when they need it. With the Membership program, we’ll continue working on multiple enhancements—with different releases varying the mix of features, fixes, and content—which we’ll deliver on a regular basis.”
In addition, a 23-page SONAR Membership Release eZine provides tutorials, tips, and descriptions of all the new features. The SONAR “Braintree” release, a free download from the Cakewalk Command Center, is available to all current SONAR Artist, Professional, and Platinum customers.
