Australian company Burson Audio has recently launched its dedicated components division, Supreme Sound Audio, for DIY and OEM products. The manufacturer of USB DAC and amplifiers has also launched the new SS Lycan Op-Amp Test Bench, Headphone Amp and Preamp device on its brand new Supreme Sound Audio website.
Built to the same exacting standards as all Burson Audio products, Supreme Sound Audio (SSA) focuses on providing components for DIYers and OEM audio manufacturers. Burson’s iconic all-discrete op-amps were the first products shifted to the new SSA site and are now complemented with the new SS Lycan which was created originally to test the company’s own Op-Amp designs.
As the company explains, “we constructed a powerful, totally transparent in-house op-amp test platform that makes it easy to hear the actual sound of any single or dual op-amp you plug into it. Switching op-amps is a snap with absolutely no soldering! We call it the Lycan.”
Marking the launch of Supreme Sound Audio, the company decided to offer the Lycan Op-Amp Test Bench in a kit so users could also hear the difference between op-amps and discrete circuits. The Lycan Test Bench includes a powerful headphone amp and an input section allowing to test the sound of op-amps and discrete circuits from any brand. The device delivers over 2.2 watts per channel into 16 ohms and drives any headphone with ease. SSA also says it will continue development and add-ons will be released in the future.
The Lycan has roughly the same footprint as a smartphone, it comes fully assembled and ready to use. Built to the same exacting standards as all Supreme Sound and Burson Audio products, the Lycan is a pure class-A, fully discrete device with a preamp section suitable for powered components or active speakers. “The 60W power supply has a filter stage with 8800uf of power reserve caps and 94dB ripple rejection. This means every one of its 2.2 watts is totally pristine, allowing you to hear the finest details in your music,” says the company.
The Lycan Op-Amp Headphone amp and Preamp is now shipping for$249USD without op-amps and $299USD with SSA op-amps.
SSA op-amps are available also from www.partsconnexion.com.
