Magic-PCB is an ideal solution to solve the problems of illegible EAN codes, ripped-off labels, and product piracy from German company Beta Layout. Using an embedded RFID PCB identification system, it becomes possible to use radio signals for contactless reading of data from electronic products (using an RFID reader).
Murata’s Magicstrap allows PCBs to be used as RFID tags and Kathrein provides matching antenna solutions. Finally, Beta Layout’s Magic-PCB technique for embedding Magicstrap in prototypes allows it to be used in product development.
Two years ago Beta Layout’s Embedded RFID technology - Magic-PCB - was patented in the US. In a continuing process Beta Layout has evaluated this technology according to the US safety standards for Electronic products. They have recently obtained the Certificate of Compliance from the Underwriters Laboratory confirming the solution now meets the industry’s requirements.
By embedding an RFID module into the PCB, every PCB is identifiable, eliminating the need for barcodes and line of sight, while creating a systematic and thus more efficient solution. Each RFiD module has a unique identifying code and a user memory. Typical fields of application are process control, product security and recycling. This technology is available for prototype PCBs and small volumes using the PCB-POOL service. Beta Layout offers the embedding of RFID chips in printed circuit boards, and SMT/THT assembly. High-volume production is also possible under license using a specially developed application machine.
Beta Layout is a leading company in Europe in the field of printed circuit board services since 1989, with headquarters in Aarbergen/Germany and further locations in Ireland, France, South Africa, and the US. Beta Layout not only produces and sells printed circuit board prototypes, high-tech PCBs, and small series according to the PCB-POOL shared-cost principle at three locations in Germany, but also laser-cut SMD stencils, front panels including laser engraving and color printing, 3-D prints, and prototypes. The company also offers Flexible Printed Circuit Boards for parts which have to move during operation or PCBs, which have to bend to fit into a limited space of an enclosure.
