AKM Resumes Sample Shipments of 13 Velvet Sound DAC/ADC Products

Asahi Kasei Microdevices (AKM) has resumed sample shipments of 13 Velvet Sound D/A converters (DAC) and A/D converters (ADC) products - all part of a new generation of improved devices. The samples start shipping in January 2022. Mass production is scheduled for the third quarter of 2022. The new range of devices include new 115dB and 768kHz 32-bit DACs in 2, 4, 6, and 8-channel models, plus nine new 32-bit ADCs in 2, 4, and 8 channel models including the AK5522 ADC, ideal for bus-powered USB audio interfaces.

Danish speaker designer Lyd by Dissing announced an original project for its latest development – the Strøm wireless speaker with support for both Bluetooth and Spotify Connect via Wi-Fi. This is one of twelve demonstration projects under the European Union OPENNEXT program, aimed at promoting community-based product design and manufacturing. The Strøm is a fully open source project where both the cabinet construction and software platform are open sourced.

MPEG-H Audio Selected as the Sole Mandatory Audio System for Next-Generation TV 3.0 Broadcast Service in Brazil

The Brazilian SBTVD Forum (Brazil's digital TV technical coordination entity) recently finalized the technical evaluation phase of its TV 3.0 Project for the definition of the next-generation television system in Brazil. It comprised a detailed technical evaluation of all proposed technologies. As a result, the MPEG-H Audio system was selected as the sole mandatory audio codec for the future Brazilian broadcast system. Fraunhofer IIS supported the SBTVD Forum in the testing and evaluation process.
