Headphones have an important advantage over loudspeakers. They completely remove the room acoustics, which makes them an ideal tool for speaker designers. A high-quality pair of headphones reproducing a well-know recording can serve as a reference when evaluating a newly designed loudspeaker. Of course, a high-quality amplifier must drive high-quality headphones. This article describes the design and construction of a high-quality, high-power headphone amplifier.
